New Year, Same Amazing You: Self-Care Tips That Actually Work

Happy New Year! Or as I like to say, Happy Another Year to Embrace Your Awesomeness! Now, let me start by saying this: I do not believe in New Year’s resolutions. Nope. Not one bit. Why? Because there’s no such thing as a “new you.” You don’t need a complete overhaul to step into the new year. You are already amazing, and this is your chance to enhance the greatness that’s already there.

happy new year greeting card with glitters

When we talk about “the new me,” it subconsciously suggests that who we are right now isn’t good enough—that we need to ditch everything about ourselves and reinvent. But here’s the reality: most resolutions don’t even make it past January 15. Why? Because we’re setting ourselves up to think we need to become someone else instead of simply activating the superpowers we already have.

So, instead of another year of failed resolutions, let’s focus on self-care tips that actually work—practical, meaningful ways to make 2025 your best year yet. And don’t worry, this won’t be another over-complicated list. We’re keeping it simple, fun, and pun-tastic because who says self-care can’t be a little festive.

1. Log Off and Tune Into Yourself
First things first: log off. Like, right now. Okay, maybe after you finish reading this blog post. Seriously though, it’s time to limit screen time. Our phones, social media, and streaming services are turning us into a giant copy-paste society. Everyone’s dressing the same, talking the same, cooking the same viral TikTok pasta dish, and even aspiring to the same goals.

Let’s break free from the mold in 2024. Be unapologetically YOU. It’s okay to skip the trending lingo, the latest must-have fashion item, or the viral recipes. Rediscover what you like—your style, your hobbies, your quirks. Logging off gives you time to reflect, recharge, and reconnect with yourself. And honestly, it’s a lot better for your wallet and your sanity.

2. Listen to Your Body (It’s Not Just Background Noise)
This year, let’s focus on health—proactively, not reactively. Your body is like that friend who leaves you subtle hints, but you’re too busy to notice. You know, the one who’s been whispering, “Hey, maybe it’s time for that check-up” or “Drink more water, please!”

Make those appointments, get that blood work done, and stop ignoring your body’s signals. It’s not just about looking good in your New Year’s Eve outfit; it’s about feeling good year-round. Your body is your home—take care of it so it can take care of you. MENTAL NOTE OF THE DAY: NEW YEAR EDITION

3. Focus on Experiences, Not Just Destinations
We all love a good vacation, but let’s be real: sometimes, we get so caught up in the “perfect destination” that we forget to enjoy the moments leading up to it—or even the trip itself. This year, let’s focus on creating memories and experiences that matter.

Whether it’s a road trip to a nearby town, a spontaneous picnic in the park, or a candlelit dinner at home, the magic lies in the moments, not the miles traveled. Snap the picture, but also put the phone down and soak it all in. Life is happening right now—don’t miss it trying to get the perfect shot for Instagram.

4. Keep It Simple (No Need to Overcomplicate)
Self-care doesn’t have to be an elaborate 12-step skincare routine or a weeklong silent retreat. Sometimes, it’s as simple as drinking more water, taking a walk, or setting a boundary (yes, “no” is a full sentence).

Simplify your goals this year. Want to get healthy? Start with one small habit—like swapping one soda a day for water. Want to declutter? Start with one drawer, not the whole house. When you keep things simple, they’re easier to stick to—and that’s how real change happens.

2025 isn’t about becoming a “new you.” It’s about embracing the real you—the one who’s perfectly imperfect, endlessly capable, and ready to shine. Take care of yourself, love yourself, and most importantly, be yourself.

Here’s to a year of logging off, listening to your body, creating meaningful experiences, and keeping it all simple. May your 2025 be as fabulous as you already are. Happy New Year 🎆🎊🎈

Mastering Life’s Challenges: The 24-Hour Rule

Life isn’t always smooth sailing. We all face hardships—moments that knock the wind out of us and leave us questioning how to move forward. Recently, I came across a reel that offered a simple yet powerful tip for navigating tough times, and I knew I had to share it with you.

close up of an old sign

In the reel, a woman explained a method she calls the 24-hour rule. She said she wishes she’d known about it years ago, especially as a woman navigating life’s challenges. The concept is straightforward but profound:

When faced with a hardship, give yourself 24 hours to feel everything—cry, yell, be angry, cuss, fuss, and do whatever you need to release those emotions. Let it all out without guilt. But after those 24 hours are up, it’s time to shift your focus. It’s time to start the bounce back. SETBACKS, REJECTIONS, AND STUMBLING BLOCKS ARE NECESSARY FOR GROWTH

Why the 24-Hour Rule Works

  1. It Honors Your Emotions
Life is messy, and emotions are valid. Suppressing how you feel only leads to bottled-up frustration or sadness. Giving yourself 24 hours to process your emotions allows you to honor what you’re going through without letting it consume you.
  2. It Builds Resilience
The reel emphasized that resilience is one of the best traits anyone can possess. Learning how to get back up after life knocks you down is a skill that will serve you over and over again. The 24-hour rule creates a balance between feeling your pain and deciding to move forward.
  3. It Keeps You Solution-Focused
We can’t heal in the same place we got sick. Laying around, replaying the problem in your mind, or dwelling on what went wrong only deepens the wound. After those 24 hours, focusing on solutions—not the problem—is what will propel you forward.
  4. It Puts Things in Perspective
As the reel pointed out, many of the situations or circumstances we stress over now won’t even matter in five or ten years. Why dwell on something that won’t have lasting significance? Instead, channel your energy into healing, growth, and what’s next.

As we prepare for a new year—a time of fresh starts and renewed intentions—this rule can be a powerful tool in your toolkit. Challenges will come, but how you navigate them makes all the difference.

Here’s how to embrace the 24-hour rule:

  1. Feel Fully: When something goes wrong, give yourself permission to feel. Journal, talk to a trusted friend, or even scream into a pillow if that’s what it takes.
  2. Set a Timer: Literally mark the 24-hour period. Knowing there’s a deadline to your wallowing can help prevent you from staying stuck.
  3. Take Action: Once the 24 hours are up, focus on what you can control. What’s the next step, however small, to move forward?
  4. Keep Perspective: Ask yourself, “Will this matter in five or ten years?” If not, let that realization lighten the emotional load.

As we approach a new year, we’re often encouraged to set big goals, dream new dreams, and create a vision for what’s ahead. But sometimes, we bring unresolved pain or worry into the new year. The 24-hour rule reminds us to process what we’ve been through without staying stuck in it.

Pass It On

I found the 24-hour rule incredibly helpful, and I hope it resonates with you too. As you navigate whatever life throws your way, remember: feel it, release it, and then focus on the bounce back.

Let this rule inspire you as you step into the new year with hope, strength, and clarity. You’ve got this.

Digital vs. Paper Planners: Find Your Best Fit

As we gear up for the new year, the conversation around goal setting, vision boards, to-do lists, routines, and resets is everywhere. And rightfully so—there’s something invigorating about starting fresh, armed with a plan to tackle the months ahead. For many, this conversation inevitably leads to the trusty companion of productivity: the planner.

photo of planner and writing materials

But here’s the thing—planners come in all shapes, sizes, and styles. From sleek digital tools to beautifully bound paper notebooks, there’s a method for everyone. Or… maybe you’re one of those people who prefers to “wing it.” So, let me ask: Are you a digital planner person, a paper planner person, or are you just not a planner at all?

The Staunch Planner: Can’t Live Without It
Some people are staunch planners. Their lives practically revolve around their planners, and without them, they’d feel lost. They’re the ones jotting down appointments, birthdays, grocery lists, and even random thoughts. For them, it’s not just about staying organized—it’s about having a system to keep life manageable.

The Digital Planner Person: Convenience at Your Fingertips
Others prefer the digital route, using their phones or apps to keep everything at their fingertips. It makes sense—it’s always with you, it syncs across devices, and you can set reminders that buzz you into action. Plus, no pens are required, and you don’t have to worry about losing it (unless you misplace your phone).

Me? I’m a Paper Planner Person
I’ll admit it: I’m a paper planner kind of girlie. As I’ve grown, matured, and had many (many) birthdays—and thanks to our lovely friend Perimenopause—writing things down has become essential for me.

A couple of years ago, when I was training for my job, my predecessor shared a gem of advice: Every Monday morning, she’d write down all the tasks she needed to accomplish for the week. Even the routine ones like mailing letters, writing checks, or sending weekly emails made the list.

I’ve carried on that tradition, and let me tell you, it’s a game-changer. When someone calls and asks me to send an email or follow up on something, I jot it down on my list. By Friday, seeing all those check marks next to completed tasks gives me a sense of accomplishment. And you know what? Sometimes, not everything gets checked off—and that’s okay.

Planners Are a Game-Changer (Especially for the New Year)

As we step into 2025, time isn’t waiting on anyone, planners—whether digital or paper—can be a powerful tool for staying on track. Here’s why:

1. They Help Build Accountability

Writing down your goals or tasks makes them real. You can’t ignore what’s staring back at you from the page (or screen).

2. They Boost Confidence

There’s something incredibly satisfying about checking things off your list. It’s a tangible reminder that you’re making progress. MENTAL NOTE OF THE DAY

3. They Help Eliminate Procrastination

When your tasks are clearly laid out, it’s harder to push them off. Planners give you a roadmap for the day, week, or month ahead.

4. They Keep You Focused on Your Goals

Whether it’s drinking more water, saving money, or finally starting that side hustle, planners help you stay aligned with your objectives.

5. They Encourage Reflection

Looking back at your planner lets you see how far you’ve come and what you’ve accomplished. It’s a great way to reflect and adjust for the future.

How to Find What Works for You

  • If you love the feel of pen and paper: Invest in a beautiful paper planner that inspires you. (Bonus: decorating it with stickers can make planning fun!)
  • If you’re always on your phone: Try digital tools like Google Calendar, or the many other apps and tools that are available on your phone. These are great for setting reminders and syncing across devices.
  • If you’re not a planner at all: Start small. Try writing down just three things you want to accomplish each day and see how it feels.

As the chatter about 2025 goals and vision boards continues, remember this: it’s not about becoming a “new” you. It’s about embracing who you already are and finding tools—like planners—that enhance your life.

So, whether you’re Team Paper, Team Digital, or No Planner At All, take a moment to reflect on what works best for you. And as we step into a new year, don’t forget to celebrate the little wins along the way—check marks and all. Happy New Year!!

Post-Christmas Joy: A Holiday Reminder to Savor the Season

Christmas may have come and gone, but the spirit doesn’t have to end when the calendar flips to December 26th. I recently came across a quote that said, “Post-Christmas celebrations are just as special, if not more, than the pre-Christmas ones.” And honestly, they are right.

dad and daughter hugging each other while smiling

Think about it: all the saving, planning, decorating, shopping, cooking, and baking—does it really all have to be packed away as soon as the day is over? Too often, we treat December 25th like a finish line. The wrapping paper is barely off the floor before the cleanup begins, and our minds are already jumping to the next task, the next event, or the next holiday.

But what if we paused? What if we let the spirit linger a little longer?

One of the reasons I adore this time of year is because of the joy, kindness, and love that’s shared. There’s something infectious about how people come together during the holidays—how they make time for each other, extend generosity, and express gratitude. But the moment the holidays are “over,” we often retreat back to our routines, our corners, and our fast-paced lives.

What if we didn’t rush to move on? What if we embraced the days after Christmas as an opportunity to reflect, savor, and stay connected to the spirit of the season? Slow Down: Take Life One Day, One Task at a Time

This is a lesson my husband have learned. When we were first married, the day after Christmas was, in his mind, “clean-up time.” Decorations down, tree gone, and back to business as usual. Christmas was over, and it was time to move on.

But over the years, he’s come to see it differently. Now, he understands the value of letting the season linger. The glow of the lights, the warmth of the memories, and the comfort of the togetherness—it’s all worth holding onto just a bit longer.

This isn’t just a lesson for the holidays; it’s a reminder for life. Whatever season you’re in—whether it’s one of celebration, growth, or even challenge—take time to fully experience it. Stop rushing to the next thing.

We live in a world that constantly pushes us to do more, achieve more, and move faster. But the beauty of life isn’t found in how quickly we can move through it. It’s found in the moments we savor, the connections we nurture, and the memories we create.

Post-Christmas is the perfect time to practice this:

  • Sit a little longer by the tree, even if the presents are all unwrapped.
  • Revisit the memories made over the holiday—whether it’s the laughter shared at the dinner table or the joy of seeing someone’s face light up at a thoughtful gift.
  • Keep the spirit of kindness, joy, and love alive in your daily life, even as the holiday decorations come down.

The lesson here is simple: enjoy the season you’re in. Whether it’s the holiday season or any other chapter of your life, resist the urge to rush through it. Take a deep breath, look around, and soak it all in.

Because the truth is, life isn’t about the finish line—it’s about the journey. The moments we pause to appreciate are the ones that stick with us. So, this year, let’s not rush into the “next.” Let’s carry the love, joy, and kindness of the holidays with us every single day.

After all, the spirit of the season isn’t tied to a calendar date—it’s something we can choose to live out, one moment at a time.

Give Yourself Permission to Have Options: Life Isn’t Meant to Be a Box

Recently, I watched an Instagram video that really motivated me. A woman was sharing her experience as a mother, comparing how she feels with her fourth child versus her first. With her first child, she exclusively breastfed and felt immense pressure to do it “perfectly,” with no alternatives in sight. While she’s still exclusively breastfeeding her fourth child, she has formula tucked away in the cabinet—just in case. She’s given herself the option, the flexibility, and the permission to make a different choice if needed, and that simple shift has brought her peace of mind.

a handmade poster slogan

Her message was clear: give yourself options. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to fit into one mold or follow one rigid path—whether that’s breastfeeding or any other part of life. The idea of having choices can be empowering, especially in a world where we often feel boxed in by expectations.

Don’t Restrict Yourself: Life is Full of Choices

How often do we place restrictions on ourselves? We tell ourselves that we have to do things a certain way because it’s expected, or because we think there’s only one “right” way. We feel that pressure in every aspect of life—from how we raise our children to how we work, how we care for ourselves, and even how we spend our time.

But here’s the truth: life doesn’t have to be so rigid. You have the power to give yourself permission to choose. Whether it’s choosing to try formula when breastfeeding becomes overwhelming, deciding to take a day off work to focus on yourself, or allowing yourself to explore different paths in life—you can give yourself options. It doesn’t mean you’re giving up or that you’re not committed to something. It means you’re flexible enough to adjust when needed, and that’s a form of strength.

In today’s society, there’s so much pressure to get things “right”—to fit into certain roles, excel at everything, and make no mistakes. But we often forget that giving ourselves the space to choose is one of the greatest acts of self-compassion.

This mindset shift is about releasing the pressure and embracing the idea that we don’t have to lock ourselves into a single path. Whether it’s in motherhood, your career, or your personal life, options give you the freedom to adapt. Just like the mother in the video who kept formula on hand even though she was still breastfeeding, having options doesn’t take away from your commitment—it enhances your ability to navigate challenges.

It’s Okay to Change Your Mind

The key to living fully and authentically is to remember that you don’t have to restrict yourself to one way of doing things. You can change your mind. You can pivot. You can choose what’s best for you in the moment. Maybe it’s giving yourself the grace to switch from cooking elaborate meals every night to ordering takeout once a week. Or perhaps it’s choosing to step back from a commitment that no longer serves you and focusing on what brings you joy.

Everyday Life

Here are a few ways you can start giving yourself more options in your everyday life:

  1. Motherhood: Whether it’s breastfeeding, formula-feeding, or a mix of both, give yourself the flexibility to adapt to your needs. Don’t let societal pressure dictate how you care for your child or yourself.
  2. Self-Care: Instead of feeling like you have to follow a strict routine, give yourself permission to change it up. If you don’t feel like working out, rest. If you want to read instead of meditating, do that. You have the power to choose what feels best.
  3. Work-Life Balance: Remember that you can create boundaries around your work. Maybe one day you need to log off early to recharge. Or perhaps you need to choose a different career path altogether. It’s okay to change your mind as your needs evolve.
  4. Personal Life: Sometimes, we put ourselves in a box based on what others expect of us. But your life is your own. You can choose to pursue new hobbies, end friendships that drain you, or simply say “no” to things that no longer align with who you are.

The takeaway is simple: give yourself permission to have options. Life isn’t meant to be a set of rigid rules or a checklist of “shoulds.” It’s meant to be lived in a way that feels authentic and adaptable to who you are at any given moment. Don’t put yourself in a box or limit your possibilities. DON’T PUT YOURSELF IN A BOX Whether it’s as small as keeping formula on hand or as big as changing careers, you deserve the freedom to live with choice.

So, the next time you feel like you’re boxed in or pressured to follow one path, remind yourself: I have options. And you always will.

Never Take Your Foot Off the Gas: Self-Care is a Lifestyle

When it comes to self-care, we often think of it as something we turn to during tough times. But the real secret is never taking your foot off the gas—even when life is going well. Self-care is more than an occasional activity; it’s a lifestyle and a way of being. It’s in the daily habits and practices that keep you grounded, balanced, and aligned with yourself.

cozy cafe setting with inspirational notepad

We all have those moments when things seem to be running smoothly, and it’s easy to get relaxed, thinking we don’t need to focus on self-care as much. But that’s actually when you should ramp it up—not slow down. When life feels good, it’s the perfect time to express gratitude, give back, and prioritize your needs. That way, when life throws you a curveball, you’re already in alignment with yourself, and the challenges don’t knock you off course as easily.

Keep Your Self-Care Simple

Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. In fact, it works best when you keep it simple. During a recent conversation with my mom, we were talking about how we tend to care for ourselves when we’re sick. When you’re sick and go to the hospital, what do they do? They give you an IV for fluids, put you on a bland diet, and tell you to rest. Simple, right? So why wait for a health scare to take care of yourself?

Let’s think of daily self-care as the maintenance plan for your well-being. Drink your water. Get enough sleep. Log off when you need to. Listen to your body, nourish it with colorful foods, and laugh often. Take time for fresh air, read a good book, and do it all over again the next day.

Self-Care as a Way of Being

When self-care becomes a lifestyle, you’re not just responding to problems—you’re building confidence and courage . You’re investing in your emotional, mental, and physical health before you’re in a place of crisis. This is how you stay in alignment with who you are, even when life gets unpredictable.

The idea is to create small, consistent practices that become part of your everyday life. Whether things are going well or not, your foundation of self-care remains strong. You’ll be more equipped to handle stress, setbacks, and unexpected challenges with grace and calmness. SETBACKS, REJECTIONS, AND STUMBLING BLOCKS ARE NECESSARY FOR GROWTH

So, as you move through your week, don’t take your foot off the gas. Keep doing the little things that support your well-being. When you stay on track with your self-care, you’re better prepared for whatever comes your way.

Remember: Self-care is a lifestyle, not a luxury. Keep it simple, stay consistent, and prioritize yourself—because you’re worth it.

Monday Motivation: Stop Waiting for a Special Moment—Live Your Life Now

It’s Monday, and what better way to start the week than with a little motivation to stop waiting for that special moment to live your life? Recently, I had a conversation with a pastor, and we got to talking about the local bakery. He mentioned how he and his wife had a simple but powerful realization: they could enjoy birthday cake whenever they wanted. They didn’t need to wait for someone’s birthday or a special occasion to treat themselves to something they loved and wanted . If they had a taste for cake, they’d go get it—no excuses needed.

happiness is a piece of cake close up photography

That conversation struck me, and it reminded me of a reel I saw not too long ago. A young woman shared how she had to run to Target to grab a few items from her list, and even though it was a regular day and not a special occasion, she decided to dress up—just because it made her feel good. Or as she said, “Because I can and I want to wear this outfit.” No need for an excuse, no waiting for an event, just living in the moment and doing what felt right for her.

“Today is certainty, tomorrow is a hope. Live in certainty and hope for the best tomorrow.”-Giridhar Alwar

So often, we put off doing things that bring us joy because we think we need permission, or we convince ourselves we’ll wait for the “right time” or a special occasion. But here’s the truth: life is the special occasion. Every day is a chance to do something that makes you feel good, whether it’s buying that cake just because or dressing up for a simple errand.

Stop waiting for permission to live your life fully. You don’t need an excuse to enjoy the little things, to celebrate yourself, or to do something just for fun. If you’re craving a slice of cake on a Wednesday? Get it. If you want to wear your favorite dress to run errands? Do it. Live now, not later.

This week, let’s take a cue from the pastor and his wife—let’s indulge in life’s simple pleasures without hesitation. Win the Day: Celebrating Your Daily and Weekly Victories Celebrate the small wins, enjoy the little moments, and remember that you don’t need a special day on the calendar to make your life feel extraordinary. It already is, because you’re in it.

It’s Never Too Late to Start the Day Over: Finding Inspiration from a Midday Reset

The other day, I came across a motivating and encouraging post that I’m going to use the next time I feel overwhelmed . It was from a mom of four children, all five years old and under, who’s juggling the demands of being an entrepreneur and homeschooling her kids this year. As you can imagine, her days are filled with chaos, stress, and exhaustion. But what really caught my attention was what she did when it all became too much. Instead of pushing through the overwhelm, she decided to do something many of us don’t think about: she started her day over—even though it was well into the afternoon.

young woman standing in front of a mirror in a bathroom

Feeling stressed and tense, she chose to reset. She took a long, soothing shower, exfoliated her skin, washed and conditioned her hair, and treated herself to a facial mask. Then, she put on clothes that made her feel cozy and comfortable . After this self-care break, she was able to proceed with the rest of her day feeling calm, joyful, and smiling again.

So often, when we feel overwhelmed or frazzled, we think we’re stuck in that feeling for the rest of the day. We think we have to push through, even when our energy is depleted and our mood is off. But this post was such a beautiful reminder that you can start the day over at any time. It’s never too late to hit the reset button, take a breather, and approach the day from a place of calm and peace.

When we hear the term “midday pick-me-up,” we usually think of things like grabbing a snack, doing a quick workout, making a phone call, or even taking a nap. But this mom showed me that sometimes, the best way to reset is to do something purely for yourself. Take that shower. Exfoliate your skin. Change into something that makes you feel good. You don’t have to wait for the next day to start fresh—you can start over whenever you need to.

Live by Your Own Rules

What’s so empowering about her story is the idea that you don’t have to live by anyone else’s rules. Just because it’s mid-afternoon doesn’t mean you can’t restart your day. You’re in control of your time and your well-being. Sometimes, it’s essential to press pause, take care of yourself, and prioritize what you need in that moment. It’s not selfish—it’s self-preservation. SELF CARE IS A LIFESTYLE

As women, mothers, or entrepreneurs, we often feel the need to keep everything together and power through our days no matter how stressed or overwhelmed we feel. But we can flip the script. We can choose to take care of ourselves first and do what’s best for our mental and physical well-being, even if it means pausing everything to start the day over.

This post was a refreshing reminder to always put yourself first. Life is full of challenges, stress, and unpredictability. It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of tasks, responsibilities, and the constant pressure to do it all. But the truth is, you matter too. Your peace, your joy, and your mental clarity are just as important as everything else on your to-do list.

Whether it’s a hot shower, a facial mask, or slipping into clothes that make you feel good, it’s important to give yourself moments of care and kindness. When you take time for yourself, you’re able to face the rest of your day with more grace and ease, just like that mom did after her reset.

This inspiring story is a reminder that we all have the power to start the day over, no matter how far along we are. It’s never too late to reset, take a moment for yourself, and return to your day with a clearer, calmer mindset. The next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember: you don’t have to wait for tomorrow to start fresh. Take a moment to breathe, reset, and do something just for you. Your day—and your peace of mind—are worth it.

Embracing the Detours of Life: When Plans Go Off Course

Ah, the beauty of a simple Saturday morning plan—at least, that’s how it started for my husband and me. Our goal was easy enough: grab a quick breakfast, go on a coffee run, pick up four items from the store, and knock out a couple of errands before settling in for a day of football. Seems pretty straightforward, right? Well, as with many things in life, not everything goes as planned.

Our first stop was supposed to be quick. But when we arrived, I realized I had read the date wrong, and the place was closed—it wasn’t happening until next Saturday. Oops, but no big deal, we thought. We’re flexible. So, we decided to move on to breakfast. However, when we arrived at our favorite breakfast spot, we couldn’t even find a parking spot in the lot. At this point, we looked at each other with a smirk, and realized our simple morning plan wasn’t going to be so simple.

Still, no worries. We’re hanging out on our usual Saturday morning date. Afterall, we really wasn’t in a rush. We figured we’d run an errand, grab some food and coffee afterward, and get back on track. But once again, life had other plans. The errand stop was unusually busy, with lines out the door. By this time the only priority was to eat and make it to the post office before it closed.

By the time we got there (after three failed attempts), we realized why everything was so busy—we live just 30 minutes from a large SEC school that had a home game that day. Of course, everything was unusually packed!

As we finally sat down to eat and enjoy a moment of calm, it clicked for me: sometimes life throws us detours for a reason. I turned to my husband and said, “Let’s just take the day as it comes. Obviously, these detours are here for a reason.”

There’s something profound about realizing that detours, whether on the road or in life, can be gifts in disguise. They can serve to redirect us, protect us, or even make our paths clearer.

Detours as Redirection

Sometimes, detours show up because we’re being redirected toward something better. Maybe if we had stuck to the original plan, we wouldn’t have ended up at that café we love so much. Maybe we would’ve gotten caught in the football traffic, frustrated and hungry. Life has a funny way of guiding us toward what we need, even when we don’t realize it at first. A detour may seem like a disruption, but often it leads us to exactly where we’re supposed to be.

Detours as Protection

There are also times when life’s detours protect us from something we don’t see coming. Who knows what we might have encountered had we forced ourselves to stick to our original plan? Sometimes, what feels like an obstacle is actually life’s way of keeping us safe, both physically and emotionally. When things don’t go according to plan, maybe it’s because the plan was never meant to be followed that way in the first place.

Detours as Clarity

Lastly, detours can bring clarity. As we adjusted our plans and went with the flow, I realized how much more relaxed and flexible we felt. Instead of rushing around trying to hit every stop, we slowed down, laughed about the situation, and enjoyed being in the moment. The detour helped us remember what mattered most—spending time together, having our Saturday morning coffee, and letting the day unfold naturally.

It’s easy to get frustrated when things don’t go as planned, but sometimes those off-course moments are exactly what we need. Life’s detours remind us that we can’t control everything, and that’s okay. Win the Day: Celebrating Your Daily and Weekly Victories There’s beauty in staying present, rolling with the punches, and trusting that things will happen the way it’s meant to.

So, the next time your carefully laid plans go sideways, try to see it as an opportunity rather than a setback. Maybe that detour is pointing you toward something better. Maybe it’s saving you from something worse. Or maybe, it’s just reminding you to slow down, stay in the moment, and enjoy the ride.

As we regrouped and finished our Saturday errands, it was clear that the detours weren’t just an inconvenience; they were a reminder to stay flexible and present. Life rarely goes exactly according to plan, and that’s where the magic happens. Whether life’s detours are redirecting you, protecting you, or giving you clarity, they’re there for a reason. Trust them, and enjoy the journey—even when it takes you down an unexpected road.

Celebrating Another Year: Embracing the Gift of Getting Older

Birthdays are truly a gift—an opportunity to celebrate the journey of life, the wisdom we’ve gained, and the experiences that have shaped us. Some aren’t fortunate enough to make it to their next birthday, so each one we get is something to be cherished and embraced. Getting older is something to celebrate, not hide from. Hiding your age? That’s old news!

With each passing year, we gain more wisdom and life experiences that can help those coming up behind us. And with every birthday, we’re given a renewed sense of self—a chance to reflect, grow, and become even more comfortable in our own skin.

I can say for myself, the more birthdays I have, the more grateful and at ease I become with who I am. I’ve learned to own my purpose, to understand what I’m here to do and be. My hope for you, on your birthday or as you approach your next one, is that you find your groove and your path. Embrace who you are and own every part of yourself. MY HOPE FOR YOU: BIRTHDAY MOTIVATION

Keep healing, keep growing, and strive to be better every day. Embrace your flaws, embrace change, and continue becoming the best, most confident version of yourself. Here’s to celebrating not just another year, but the amazing journey of becoming who you’re meant to be.

Happy Birthday! 🎉
