Embracing the Olympic Spirit: Our Love for the Games

There’s something magical about the Olympics. Every four years (or two if you count the Winter Games!), the world comes together to celebrate the pinnacle of human athleticism, determination, and perseverance. For my husband and me, the Olympics isn’t just a sporting event—it’s a full-blown obsession. We binge-watch it day and night, soaking up every moment of the competition.

gray olympics concrete block

Our favorite events? Oh, we have quite a few! Swimming, gymnastics, and track and field are always at the top of our list. And track and field? The sheer speed and endurance of those athletes leave us in awe every single time.

The Olympics is also a time when we dive into sports we might not normally watch. Fencing? Absolutely! Beach volleyball? Always exciting, keeps you on the edge of your seats. Rowing? Will have you rowing your imaginary boat on the couch! Equestrian events? Yup, lets ride that horse ! There’s something so fascinating about these sports, and the Olympics gives us the perfect excuse to explore them. It’s amazing to see athletes compete at such a high level in sports we’re not as familiar with—it broadens our horizons and makes us appreciate the diversity of athletic talent around the world.

And let’s not forget the opening ceremony! Who else finds themselves looking up countries they’ve never heard of just to learn more about them? We do! The parade of nations is like a mini geography and culture lesson. We get curious about the flags, the languages, the history—everything! The Olympics has this incredible ability to make you think outside the box and embrace cultures and people you might not normally encounter.

It’s a reminder that, despite our differences, we’re all part of the same global community, united by a love of sport and competition.

One of the most fun parts of watching the Olympics is cheering for athletes and teams we might never have watched otherwise. Whether it’s an underdog story or a competitor from a small nation, there’s something special about rooting for someone who isn’t a household name. The Olympics teaches us to appreciate the effort, dedication, and passion that goes into competing at this level, no matter where the athlete comes from or what sport they’re in.

But oh, the sadness when the Olympics is over! After weeks of nonstop action, it’s always a little bittersweet to say goodbye to the games. We’ll miss the excitement, the stories, and the inspiration that the Olympics brings. But we take with us a renewed sense of motivation—seeing these athletes push themselves to the limit reminds us that with hard work and dedication, we too can achieve great things.

The Olympics is more than just a series of competitions; it’s a celebration of the human spirit. It’s about pushing boundaries, overcoming obstacles, and striving for excellence. For my husband and me, it’s also a chance to explore new sports, learn about different cultures, and experience the world through the eyes of the athletes.

Who else has been glued to the screen during the Olympics? What events do you love? What motivation have you drawn from watching these incredible athletes? And who else is going to be a little sad when it’s all over?

8 Best Pieces of Advice I Heard Last Week

Life is a journey filled with twists, turns, and endless learning opportunities. This week, I came across some truly insightful advice that stuck with me like white on rice. Here are the eight best pieces of advice I heard, each one offering a valuable reminder to live more freely, openly, and courageously.

advice lettering text on black background

1. Sometimes the Most Difficult Roads Traveled Lead to the Most Beautiful Destinations

Life’s challenges can often feel overwhelming, but remember, difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. Embrace the struggles and setbacks as part of your journey. They shape you, build confidence , and ultimately lead you to greater rewards and growth.

2. Some People Don’t Hear Words; They Hear Judgment

Unhealed people can make communication challenging. When talking to someone who may be struggling, it’s important to remember that they might interpret your words as judgment rather than advice or support. Approach conversations with empathy and patience, understanding that their reaction is more about their inner battles than your intentions.

3. Stay Silent; Not Everything Needs to Be Said

There’s wisdom in knowing when to speak and when to stay silent. Sometimes, silence is the best response to avoid unnecessary drama. Not every thought needs to be voiced, especially if it’s going to escalate tensions or add to the stress. Practice the art of silence and see how much more peaceful your interactions become.

4. People Who Aren’t Treating You Well Aren’t Going to Treat You Better if You Try Harder

It’s a hard truth, but one worth remembering: people who don’t treat you well won’t start treating you better if you just try harder. Respect yourself enough to walk away from those who don’t appreciate you. Surround yourself with people who value and respect you for who you are. 6 THINGS THAT DRAINS YOUR ENERGY AND TIME

5. There’s Never a Perfect Time to Do the Thing You Want to Do

Waiting for the perfect moment often means waiting forever. There’s never a perfect time to do what you truly want. Take the leap, start the project, make the move—whatever it is, do it now. Life is too short to wait for the perfect circumstances.

6. It’s a Privilege to Get Older; Don’t Hide Your Age or Be Ashamed

Aging is a privilege denied to many. Celebrate your age and the wisdom that comes with it. Each year is a testament to your experiences, growth, and survival. Don’t hide your age or be ashamed of it—embrace it with pride and gratitude.

7. Things We Make a Big Deal Really Aren’t; It’s Stressing Us Out and Wasting Time

We often blow things out of proportion, stressing ourselves out over minor issues. Take a step back and gain perspective. Ask yourself if what you’re worrying about will matter in a week, a month, or a year. Chances are, it won’t. Save your energy for what truly matters.

8. Not Taking Things Personally Will Give You Power Over Your Emotions, Thoughts, and Behaviors

One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is learning not to take things personally. When you stop internalizing others’ actions and words, you regain power over your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. This shift allows you to live more freely and confidently, unburdened by the opinions of others.

These pieces of advice serve as powerful reminders to live authentically and courageously. Embrace the journey, communicate with empathy, choose silence wisely, value yourself, seize the moment, celebrate aging, keep things in perspective, and don’t take things personally. By internalizing these lessons, you can navigate life’s challenges with grace and find greater joy and fulfillment.

Let these reminders guide you towards a more liberated and vibrant life. What’s the best piece of advice you heard this week?

Are You a Morning or Night Person?

Have you ever wondered why some people leap out of bed with endless energy while others find their creative groove long after the sun has set? Whether you’re a morning person who thrives in the early hours or a night owl who comes alive as the day winds down, understanding your natural rhythm can help you tailor your day to make the most of your time and energy.

woman in gray tank top lying on bed

Morning People: Embracing the Dawn

If you love waking up early and feel energized as soon as your feet hit the floor, you’re likely a morning person. Morning people often find they’re at their best in the early hours, making this the perfect time to tackle important tasks, exercise, and enjoy some quiet time before the world wakes up.

Benefits of Being a Morning Person:

Tips for Morning People:

  1. Prioritize Tasks: Tackle your most important or challenging tasks first thing in the morning when your energy is highest.
  2. Exercise Early: Morning workouts can boost your energy levels and mood for the rest of the day.
  3. Enjoy Quiet Time: Use the early hours for meditation, reading, or planning your day without distractions.

Night People: Finding Inspiration After Dark

If you find your creative juices flowing and motivation peaking later in the day, you’re likely a night person. Night owls often feel more alert and focused as the day progresses, making the evening hours ideal for brainstorming, creative work, or deep thinking.

Benefits of Being a Night Person:

  • Enhanced Creativity: Many night owls experience heightened creativity and problem-solving abilities in the evening.
  • Quiet Time: Late-night hours are often quiet and free from interruptions, perfect for focused work.
  • Flexibility: Night people can enjoy a flexible schedule, making the most of their peak productivity times.

Tips for Night People:

  1. Identify Peak Times: Determine when you feel most alert and schedule your most demanding tasks during these hours.
  2. Create a Relaxing Morning Routine: Start your day gently, allowing yourself time to wake up fully before diving into work.
  3. Stay Active: Incorporate exercise into your day to maintain energy levels and promote better sleep.

The good news is that regardless of whether you’re a morning person or a night owl, you can tailor your day to suit your natural mood and maximize your potential. Here’s how:

1. Understand Your Energy Patterns: Pay attention to when you feel most energetic and focused. This self-awareness is key to planning your day effectively.

2. Schedule Accordingly: Plan your most important tasks during your peak energy times. For morning people, this might be early in the day, while night people might schedule their critical work in the late afternoon or evening.

3. Establish a Routine: Consistency is important for both morning and night people. Establish a routine that aligns with your natural rhythm to maintain balance and productivity.

4. Balance Work and Rest: Ensure you’re getting enough rest and taking breaks throughout the day. Overworking can lead to burnout, regardless of your preferred schedule.

5. Communicate Your Needs: If possible, communicate your preferred working hours to colleagues or supervisors. Flexibility in the workplace can help you perform at your best.

Whether you’re a morning person who thrives with the sunrise or a night owl who finds inspiration under the stars, understanding and embracing your natural mood is crucial. By tailoring your day and routines to match your energy patterns, you can ensure you’re giving yourself the best possible opportunity to have a productive and fulfilling day.

So, are you a morning person or a night person?

Mental Health Reminder Inspired By Commercial Breaks

My husband and youngest son absolutely hate commercials. They can’t sit through them and will channel surf until the commercial is over. This got me thinking: commercials are actually a great way to take quick breaks. Rather than seeing them as an annoyance, why not use them as an opportunity to take a mini-break?

man holding remote control

Taking even short breaks throughout the day is crucial for maintaining our mental and physical well-being. It doesn’t have to be a long break; even a quick five-minute pause can make a significant difference.

Taking short breaks helps to reset our minds, reduce stress, and improve overall productivity. These small pauses can refresh our focus and give us the boost we need to tackle the next task with renewed energy.

Here are a few ways to make the most out of short breaks, inspired by commercial breaks:

1. Grab a Snack: Use the time to grab a healthy snack. A quick bite can re-energize you and keep your metabolism going.

2. Use the Restroom: This may seem obvious, but often we get so engrossed in what we’re doing that we forget to take care of basic needs.

3. Check Your Phone: Take a moment to check your messages or social media. Just make sure to limit your time to avoid getting sucked into going down the rabbit hole and you miss your show or being late back to something.

4. Stretch or Walk Around: Stand up, stretch, or take a short walk around your home or office. Physical movement can help relieve tension and refresh your mind.

5. Practice Deep Breathing: Take a few deep breaths to calm your mind and body. This can help reduce stress and improve your focus. Five minute meditations are great to calm your nerves down.

Just like we can use commercial breaks to take a pause, it’s essential to remind ourselves to take breaks in our daily lives. These short moments of rest can have a significant impact on our overall well-being. So, next time you’re watching TV and a commercial comes on, resist the urge to channel surf and instead take advantage of the break. WELLNESS: EVEN THE STRONGEST NEEDS A BREAK

Taking breaks, even short ones, is important for maintaining our health and productivity. Use commercial breaks as a reminder to pause, refresh, and take care of yourself. Whether it’s grabbing a snack, stretching, or simply taking a few deep breaths, these small moments can make a big difference. So, go ahead and embrace the power of the quick break!

Simple Self-Care Tips That Go a Long Way

In our busy lives, it’s easy to overlook self-care. However, taking simple steps to care for yourself can make a significant difference in your overall well-being. Here are some straightforward self-care tips that can help you lead a more balanced, fulfilling life. Remember, self-care isn’t about luxury or indulgence; it’s about taking actions that nurture your physical, emotional, and mental health.

1. Trust Your Instincts: If It Feels Wrong, Don’t Do It

Your instincts are a powerful tool. If something feels wrong, it probably is. Trusting your gut can prevent you from making decisions that might lead to stress or regret. Whether it’s in your personal life or at work, listening to your inner voice can guide you toward choices that align with your values and well-being. We often look back and say “I wish I would have know.” Or “I wish someone would have told me.” Well you did get a warning. Listen to your gut. 5 SELF CARE TIPS TO REFRESH AND RECHARGE

2. Communicate Clearly: Say Exactly What You Mean and Mean What You Say

Clear communication is essential for healthy relationships and personal integrity. Saying exactly what you mean leaves little room for misunderstandings or misinterpretations. It also ensures that your needs and boundaries are respected. Practicing clear and honest communication can lead to more genuine connections and fewer conflicts. Some of us are taught early on, to not ask or express your needs or concerns. Doing so in a respectful manner will help oneself, relationships, and others.

3. Stop the Negative Self-Talk

Negative self-talk can be incredibly damaging to your self-esteem and mental health. Challenge those negative thoughts by asking yourself if they are true or helpful. Replace them with positive affirmations and focus on your strengths and achievements. Over time, you’ll notice a significant improvement in your mood and self-confidence.

4. Don’t Be Afraid to Say No

Saying no can be difficult, especially if you’re a people-pleaser. However, it’s essential to recognize your limits and protect your time and energy. Saying no doesn’t make you selfish; it means you’re prioritizing your well-being. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. By setting boundaries, you ensure that you have the resources to take care of yourself and others effectively. My husband and I often laugh in our early days we would say yes, especially at work, because we knew how to do it, helped someone out, and allowed us to learn. All the while saying yes doesn’t get you a raise, picked to be on the team, get you an invite, or any other pat on the back.

5. Don’t Be Afraid to Say Yes

Conversely, don’t be afraid to say yes to opportunities that excite you or align with your goals. Taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to personal growth and new experiences. Whether it’s accepting a new job offer, joining a social event, or trying a new career hobby, saying yes can open doors to enriching experiences.

6. Be Honest About Your Feelings

Honesty about your feelings is crucial for your mental health and your relationships. Suppressing emotions can lead to stress, anxiety, and resentment. Whether you’re feeling happy, sad, angry, or anxious, acknowledge and express those feelings in a healthy way. Talking to a trusted friend, journaling, or seeking professional help can be beneficial. In turn, if your partner, spouse, coworker, family, or friend ask you how you feel, tell them.

Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. By trusting your instincts, communicating clearly, stopping negative self-talk, setting boundaries, embracing opportunities, and being honest about your feelings, you can significantly improve your well-being. These simple self-care tips can go a long way in helping you lead a more balanced and fulfilling life. Remember, taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. Make self-care a priority, and watch how it positively impacts every aspect of your life.

Quick Mental Health Tip: Stop Making Life Complicated

From work responsibilities and personal goals to social obligations and everyday tasks, we often find ourselves overthinking and making situations more complicated than they need to be. This habit of overthinking can lead to increased stress and anxiety, negatively impacting our mental health. Here’s a quick mental health tip: stop making life complicated. Embrace simplicity and watch your stress levels decrease and your overall well-being improve.

The Problem with Overthinking

Overthinking is a common issue that affects many people. It involves analyzing and re-analyzing situations, worrying about potential outcomes, and getting stuck in a loop of thoughts. This habit can make even simple tasks seem daunting and overwhelming. The best decision I made was to stop going around the mulberry bush to make decisions and choices. Here’s how overthinking can impact your mental health:

**1. Increases Stress and Anxiety: When you overthink, you create scenarios in your mind that may never happen, causing unnecessary stress and anxiety. This mental burden can affect your mood, sleep, and overall quality of life.

**2. Hinders Decision-Making: Overthinking can paralyze your ability to make decisions. You become so caught up in analyzing every detail that you struggle to take action, leading to missed opportunities and increased frustration. I used to frustrate my husband like crazy because I couldn’t make up my mind on what I wanted for dinner.

**3. Reduces Productivity: Spending too much time thinking about tasks instead of doing them reduces your productivity. It wastes mental energy that could be better spent on taking concrete steps toward your goals.

Embrace Simplicity: Tips to Stop Overthinking

To improve your mental health and simplify your life, consider these practical tips to stop overthinking and embrace a more straightforward approach:

**1. Focus on the Present Moment: One of the best ways to combat overthinking is to focus on the present moment. Practice mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or simply paying attention to your surroundings. This helps you stay grounded and reduces the tendency to dwell on past events or worry about the future.

**2. Set Realistic Goals: Break down your tasks and goals into smaller, manageable steps. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by a large project, focus on completing one small task at a time. This approach makes it easier to take action and prevents you from getting stuck in analysis paralysis.

**3. Limit Information Intake: In the age of information overload, it’s easy to get bogged down by too much data. Be selective about the information you consume. Limit your exposure to news, social media, and other sources that can contribute to overthinking. Focus on what’s essential and relevant to your life. I have no problem telling anyone I’m not ready to digest all that right now.

**4. Practice Self-Compassion: Be kind to yourself and acknowledge that it’s okay to make mistakes. Perfectionism often fuels overthinking. Accept that you’re doing your best and that it’s alright to have imperfections. Self-compassion helps reduce the pressure you put on yourself and promotes a healthier mindset.

**5. Make Quick Decisions: Practice making decisions more quickly. Set a time limit for yourself to decide on something, whether it’s what to wear, what to eat, or how to approach a task. The more you practice making decisions swiftly, the more confident and less anxious you’ll become about the outcomes.

**6. Create a Routine: Establishing a daily routine can simplify your life and reduce the need for constant decision-making. When you have a structured plan, you spend less time thinking about what to do next and more time actually doing it. This can significantly reduce stress and enhance your productivity.

**7. Seek Support: If you find that overthinking is significantly impacting your life, don’t hesitate to seek support. Talk to a trusted friend or family member about your concerns. Sometimes, an outside perspective can help you see things more clearly. Professional help from a therapist can also provide strategies to manage overthinking and improve your mental health.

Life doesn’t have to be complicated. By stopping overthinking and embracing simplicity, you can significantly reduce your stress and anxiety. SIMPLE DAYS ARE THE BEST DAYSFocus on the present moment, set realistic goals, limit information intake, practice self-compassion, make quick decisions, create a routine, and seek support when needed. These strategies can help you lead a more balanced and fulfilling life. Remember, the key to mental well-being is often found in simplicity. Take the first step today and start enjoying a more straightforward, less stressful life.

Darkness Doesn’t Last Forever: Finding Hope in the Storm

Yesterday, as I ventured out to do some errands, I was met with dark and cloudy skies, wind, and a cast of grayness. The rain poured down so heavily my visibility was almost nonexistent, and it felt as if the gloom would never lift. But then, something beautiful happened when I walked out the store. Despite the rain still coming down, the sun broke through the clouds, shining brighter than before . And to put a cherry on top I looked up and a vibrant rainbow appeared in the sky.

green mountain under rainbow

Instantly, this reminded me of an important life lesson: darkness doesn’t last forever. Just as the storm passed and gave way to light and color, our toughest times are often followed by moments of joy and clarity.

The Storms of Life

We all face dark and stormy periods in our lives. These can come in many forms—personal loss, professional setbacks, health challenges, financial difficulties, or emotional struggles. In the midst of these storms, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and hopeless. Even at some point wanting to throw in the towel. The darkness can cloudy our vision, making it hard to see a way forward. We may feel as if the storm will never end, and the weight of our troubles can be almost unbearable.

The Power of Persistence

However, just as with the weather, the key is to persevere. No storm lasts forever, and neither do the challenges we face. By enduring and pushing through the tough times, we allow ourselves the opportunity to witness the brighter days that follow. It’s important to remember that the sun is always there, even when hidden behind clouds. Our moments of light and happiness are waiting to break through, often when we least expect it. When we feel like we’re about to break, that’s when the light will begin to peak through. HAPPINESS ISN’T A DESTINATION

The Symbolism of the Rainbow

The rainbow that appeared after the storm is a powerful symbol of hope, happiness, and renewal. Rainbows have long been seen as a sign of promise, indicating that even after the darkest times, beauty and joy can emerge. They remind us that life is a balance of both rain and sunshine, and that both are necessary to create the fullness of our experiences.

Embracing the Light

When the sun shines through the rain, it serves as a sign for finding light in our darkest moments. It encourages us to look for the positives even when we are struggling. It’s about finding those small glimmers of hope and holding onto them. These moments of light can come from various sources—support from loved ones, personal achievements, or simply taking time to appreciate the beauty around us.

Moving Forward with Hope

As we move through life, it’s essential to carry the lesson of the rainbow with us. When faced with adversity, remind yourself that this too shall pass. Tough times don’t last. Embrace the idea that after every storm, there is potential for renewal and joy. Allow yourself to feel the rain, but also be ready to welcome the sun when it shines again.

The experience of witnessing the sun break through a storm and seeing a rainbow reminds us that darkness is temporary. No matter how hard it rains or how dark it gets, the light will eventually shine through, bringing with it new opportunities for happiness and growth. So, the next time you find yourself in the midst of a storm, remember to hold on and look for the rainbow that follows. It’s a beautiful reminder that brighter days are always ahead.

Reflecting on these moments helps you appreciate the beauty in everyday life and cultivates a sense of contentment. I had a full week. That’s my new “thing”. Did I have a full day or week? I had family time, rest time, alone time, was productive at work, and a thoughtful conversation with myself and one with my husband.

Taking time to reflect on these questions can provide valuable insights and help you appreciate the week that has passed. As you head into the weekend, let these reflections guide you in making the most of your time, fostering growth, and nurturing your well-being. Have a wonderful and reflective Friday!

As someone who started their own blog, has been an Upwork freelancer, Poshmark seller, and freelance writer for other publications I’ve learned many lessons along the way. FINDING BALANCE IN LIFE: CAN YOU REALLY HAVE IT?

  1. Do your research. Whether you’re selling items, blogging, freelancing, or pet sitting, you need to spend time researching. One of the best tricks I do is read reviews and comments that aren’t highly regarded. For example, I’ll watch a negative review about Poshmark before I watch or read 10 articles of someone gloating about it. Things such as your username, thumb nail pic, photo, when you list or post, how you market yourself, the day and time you publish and the list goes on and on is vital to your success.
  2. Know Your Legal Risks. In every side hustle, there are legal risks. For example, if you do affiliate marketing there are legal risks for photos used and how you share links. As wells as the proper way to disclose the advert. Another example is if you are a pet sitter, and someone gets hurt on your watch you could be responsible for medical bills. Or if you are a ride share driver and get into an accident you could be liable for damages.
  3. Side Hustles Are A Real Business. So often you hear people say my hobby turned into a business. That’s true. You have to be passionate about your side hustle. However, it’s a real business that requires a great deal of planning. Most people will tell you to start today. Well, what’s your business plan? What are your expenses? Who is the customer, client, or target audience? What problem are you solving? If these questions aren’t thought out and answered you’ll find yourself blowing with the wind, losing money and motivation.
  4. You have to be tech savvy. Especially starting off and not wanting to spend or outsource on technology . You have to be your own marketing guru, troubleshooting tech, creative director, and so forth. Also technology is your best friend as it will give you the tools needed to stay organized and free some time up. Using automation, calendars, and apps to help propel your business. For example, there is an automation for me to share my listings instead of doing them myself. Automation for social media marketing frees up so much time. Use your tech wisely.
  5. Time management is key. You’ll often hear people say work your 9-5 and then spend 5-9 working your side hustle. Well everyone can’t do that. Growing any side hustle takes time, effort, and patience. You’ll want to create a schedule that’s realistic for you and your lifestyle. Knowing over time it may have to adjust or change. Going head first and giving up everything can result into burn out and other areas in your life lacking. However, if you just wing it and pour sprinkles into it you’ll get out of it what you put in.
  6. Side Hustles can take you down a bumpy road. Once starting your business know that circumstances out of your control will affect you. Always be in learning mode. Willing to expand your business model. And never give up. There will be times you question everything. But remember your why.

Side hustles are a great way to diversify your income, add extra money to your savings, and help you fulfill your dreams of being a business owner. As you begin it’s important to stay focused, informed, and be adaptable. You can avoid some common pitfalls by understanding the intricacies of legal requirements, time management, demand, and the market. All it takes is one step at a time. Good luck!!!!!!!
