10 Must-Have Self-Care Products for Women Over 40

Self-care isn’t just about bubble baths and face masks—it’s about nurturing your body, mind, and soul. As I’ve navigated my own journey through perimenopause, I’ve realized how important it is to have the right tools for self-care. From dealing with sleep disruptions to unexpected stress and changes in skin and hair health, I’ve had to rethink my routine. Investing in the right products has truly made a difference in how I feel every day. If you’re experiencing similar shifts, here are 10 must-have self-care essentials that can help you feel your best every day.

1. Silk Pillowcases

Say goodbye to sleep wrinkles and frizzy hair! Silk pillowcases reduce friction, helping to keep your skin smooth and your hair healthy. They also help regulate temperature for a better night’s sleep. One thing about Peri is she’s hot. The less I wear to sleep the better. I wasn’t a big proponent of the silk pillowcase but it has not only saved my hair style, I sweat less, and my moisturizer doesn’t get eaten by my pillowcase.

2. Weighted Blanket

Struggling with sleep or anxiety? A weighted blanket provides gentle pressure that mimics a hug, promoting relaxation and deeper sleep. One of my biggest inconveniences is having nightmare dreams that awakens me at 2:31 am and I never go back to sleep. Although this sounds counter productive from number one, being cold and shivering comes along with the rollercoaster. Feeling secure with a soft blanket allows your mind and muscles to relax resulting in a clear peaceful mind to sleep through the night.

3. Collagen Supplements

Collagen production decreases with age, leading to wrinkles and joint pain. A high-quality collagen supplement supports skin elasticity, hair growth, and joint health. If you’re not a supplement user, powder form has been included in many women over 40 routines. Smoothies of course are a great option. I’ve seen women put collagen powder in homemade oats, yogurt parfaits, and drink recipes.

4. Essential Oil Diffuser

Aromatherapy is a simple yet effective way to reduce stress and improve mood. Essential oil diffusers fill your space with calming scents like lavender, eucalyptus, or citrus. This is especially great as I’ve transitioned from candles, incense, and other fragrance fused products. This is a great way to add fragrance without the toxins of a candle.

5. Neck Pillow

Sore muscles and tension ? One day after feeling tensed and tight I decided to use one of my kids neck pillows while watching television. After sitting at desk all day and probably not having good posture, sitting with a neck pillow provides relief, stability, strength, and comfort.

6. Blue Light Blocking Glasses

Protect your eyes from digital strain caused by screens. Blue light blocking glasses can help reduce headaches, eye fatigue, and improve sleep quality. I probably look like anyone’s grandma. I have readers in every purse, room, drawer at work, and at home. Not just for the health benefits, but they add style and personality.

7. Journaling Set

Writing down thoughts, goals, or gratitude can improve mental clarity and reduce stress. A guided journal paired with colorful pens makes self-reflection even more enjoyable. At this point you probably feel like you are the only one going through something. No one understands you. Or no one believes you. Well that’s the beauty in journaling. You can say whatever it is and your journal will completely understand. When Peri shows up uninvited, tell her how you feel and just get it out. Most of the time we just need to vent. 10 FUN JOURNAL PROMPTS TO GET YOUR MIND OFF YOUR PROBLEMS

8. Hydrating Skincare

Skin changes with age, making hydration a top priority. Look for serums with hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and nourishing night creams to keep your skin glowing. Actives are great. But the way my dry skin has dried and dried more. Moisture moisture moisture is the only answer. Those expensive ones work great, however these last couple weeks Vaseline has had my skin glowing. Tip: After your moisturizer, simply put a thin layer of Vaseline either on your entire face, as an eye cream, or dry patches and watch the dewy skin shine in the morning. And the silk pillowcase keeps it on your skin.

9. Simple Water Bottle

Staying hydrated is essential, but it’s easy to forget! There’s plenty of options out there and I’ve tried many. Again, because I have become more mindful about reducing toxins, I settled on a stainless steel water bottle that isn’t the size of a laundry basket and I am able to carry it around without it being a nuisance. Also I settled on a 18oz bottle. This allows me to keep track of the amount I have drank and I am more motivated to keep my goal of refilling it every hour. Yes it’s a lot. But the more water I drink the better I feel and the less my symptoms show up.

10. Scalp Massager

Scalp health is often overlooked but plays a big role in hair growth and relaxation. A scalp massager stimulates circulation and relieves tension headaches. Peri comes with headaches and some women experience hair thinning or loss. Again I thought this was pointless but this works better than the balls of my fingertips.

Prioritizing self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. Whether you’re looking to improve sleep, reduce stress, or enhance your beauty routine, these must-have products can help you feel rejuvenated and refreshed.

Knowledge is Power: A Reminder to Educate and Advocate for Yourself

Growing up, I heard the phrase “knowledge is power” countless times. It was a saying casually tossed around in school, at home, and in conversations. But as I navigate adulthood—especially during this season of perimenopause while raising an adult child and two teenagers—the truth of those words has never been more evident.

knowledge is power on a piece of paper

Over the last week, I found myself repeating a new version of this truth: If people would educate themselves, they’d be so much better off. And I don’t mean just book knowledge, but life knowledge—the kind that empowers you to stand firm, make informed choices, and advocate for yourself in every aspect of life.

Advocating for Your Health

One of the most crucial areas where knowledge is power is in the doctor’s office. How many times have we felt dismissed, unheard, or brushed off when seeking medical care? The more we educate ourselves, the better we can advocate for our own health. Whether it’s perimenopause, hormonal changes, or any other health concern, knowing your body, researching symptoms, and understanding treatment options give you the confidence to ask the right questions and demand the care you deserve.

Knowing Your Worth in Your Career

Have you ever accepted a job offer without negotiating your salary or benefits? Many of us, especially women, have been conditioned to accept whatever is offered, feeling grateful rather than empowered. But when we educate ourselves about industry standards, salary expectations, and negotiation strategies, we put ourselves in a position to claim what we rightfully deserve. Knowledge doesn’t just open doors—it ensures that we walk through them with confidence and purpose.

Making Conscious Choices for Your Well-Being

From the food we eat to the products we put on our bodies, knowledge influences our daily choices. Understanding what’s in our skincare, haircare, and household products helps us eliminate harmful chemicals that could be affecting our health. Knowing how food impacts our energy levels, hormones, and overall well-being allows us to make better decisions about what we consume. Knowledge equips us to protect ourselves from things that no longer serve us—whether that’s toxic relationships, unhealthy habits, or limiting beliefs.

True Self-Care Starts with Learning

We often think of self-care as bubble baths and spa days, but true self-care is about equipping yourself with knowledge so you can make empowered decisions. It’s about reading, learning, growing, and continuously educating yourself so you can show up as your best self. Self-care is having the wisdom to say, “I deserve better,” and the knowledge to act on it. SELF CARE IS A LIFESTYLE

So let this be a reminder: read, learn, grow, and educate yourself. The more you know, the more power you hold. And with that power, you can navigate life with confidence, wisdom, and grace.

You are worthy of knowledge. You are worthy of advocating for yourself. You are worthy of living fully and freely.

Because knowledge isn’t just power—it’s freedom.

Cardio or Strength Training: Which Do You Prefer?

When it comes to exercise, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people swear by the mental clarity of a long run or brisk walk, while others feel their best after an intense strength-training session. The truth is, both cardio and strength training have incredible benefits, and which one you lean toward often depends on your goals, preferences, and physical needs.

photo of woman sitting on floor

For me, nothing beats a good walk. It’s more than just exercise—it’s a head-to-toe release. With every step, I feel like I’m working every muscle in my body, getting my heart rate up, and clearing my mind. Mentally, it’s my daily therapy session, a chance to sort through my thoughts and put a period at the end of the day.

Walking has become my go-to for physical and mental well-being. But as I’ve grown older (hello, perimenopause!), I’ve realized that managing my health means tailoring my routine to what my body needs. This year, I’m excited to take my walks to the next level with a new addition: a weighted vest.

The weighted vest will add resistance to my walks, helping me strengthen muscles, improve bone density, and elevate my heart rate for an even better workout. It’s a small change, but it feels empowering to add this tool to my routine.

Incorporating Strength Training

While walking is my favorite, I know that strength training is just as important. As we age, building and maintaining muscle mass becomes critical—not just for appearance but for overall health and longevity.

That’s why I’ve made it a priority to incorporate weights into my routine four times a week. Whether it’s lifting dumbbells, resistance band exercises, or bodyweight moves like squats and lunges, these sessions complement my cardio and help me stay strong and balanced.

Strength training has taught me patience and discipline. It’s about more than just building muscle; it’s about building confidence and resilience. And the best part? It’s never too late to start.

When it comes to choosing between cardio and strength training, there’s no right or wrong answer. The key is finding what works for you—what aligns with your goals, what fits into your lifestyle, and what feels good for your body. YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO START YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY

Here are a few questions to help you reflect on your own journey:

  • What are your fitness goals? Are you looking to improve endurance, build strength, lose weight, or simply feel better overall?
  • What does your body need? If you have physical constraints, some exercises might not be an option. Tailor your routine to work with your body, not against it.
  • What do you enjoy? The best exercise is the one you’ll stick with. Whether it’s walking, lifting, swimming, yoga, or dancing, choose something you look forward to.

Benefits of Both Cardio and Strength Training

Cardio Benefits

  • Improves heart health and endurance
  • Boosts mental clarity and reduces stress
  • Supports weight management
  • Low-impact options like walking are accessible to most

Strength Training Benefits

  • Builds muscle mass and increases metabolism
  • Strengthens bones and reduces the risk of osteoporosis
  • Enhances balance and flexibility
  • Boosts confidence and functional fitness for daily life

We’re a couple weeks into the new year now and it’s a great time to reflect on your fitness journey and what you’d like to focus on in the months ahead. Maybe you want to incorporate more strength training, or perhaps you’re exploring new ways to enjoy cardio. The most important thing is to listen to your body, honor where you are, and stay consistent.

For me, the balance of cardio and strength training has been key to feeling my best. Whether I’m walking with my weighted vest or lifting dumbbells in the living room, each movement is a step toward better health—mentally, emotionally, and physically.

What about you? Are you more of a cardio fan, a strength-training enthusiast, or do you enjoy a mix of both?

The Beauty of Genuine Friendships: Quality Over Quantity

I stumbled upon a post today that said, “Strong friendship doesn’t need daily conversation.” It struck a chord because it perfectly describes the friendships I cherish most. I don’t have a squad or a dozen people on speed dial. I have two. Yes, just two. Two amazing women I call my besties, ride-or-dies, and forever girls.

portrait of three women with natural hair smiling

And guess what? We don’t talk every day—or even every month sometimes. Life keeps us busy with kids, careers, families, and that delightful visitor named Peri (if you know, you know). But here’s the thing: whenever we do talk, it’s like no time has passed. We pick up right where we left off, jumping right back in where we left off, into our rhythm of mutual understanding, love, and care.

In a world that often emphasizes quantity, it’s refreshing to focus on the quality of relationships. It’s not about how many friends you have but about having friendships that feel like home. The kind where silence isn’t awkward, time apart isn’t a measure of worth, and the bond isn’t broken by busy schedules.

Genuine friendships are built on trust, respect, and an unspoken agreement that life happens. There’s no guilt about time passing or pressure to explain yourself. There’s simply love. Girlfriends…Why We Need Them

Why Genuine Friendships Matter

  1. Support Without Strings: True friends understand that life ebbs and flows. They’re there when you need them without keeping score.
  2. Mutual Respect: Genuine friendships are rooted in understanding and honoring each other’s time and commitments.
  3. Emotional Safety: With real friends, you can share your highs, lows, and everything in between without fear of judgment.
  4. Connection That Lasts: These relationships stand the test of time and distance because they’re built on a solid foundation.

Friendship Goals

The goal isn’t to have a massive circle but to nurture the connections that matter. It’s about having people in your life who see you, value you, and celebrate you for who you are. Whether you have one friend, two, or ten, the focus should always be on authenticity.

If you’ve felt guilty for not texting back or calling more often, give yourself grace. Life is messy and busy, and the people who truly love you understand that. And if you’ve been longing for deeper friendships, remember: it’s not about having more—it’s about finding the right ones.

Invest in the friendships that feel good to your soul. Be the friend who shows up when it matters, listens without judgment, and loves unconditionally. And never underestimate the power of a quick “thinking of you” text—it can bridge the gap of time and space in the most beautiful way.

Friendship isn’t about daily conversation or constant contact. It’s about connection, understanding, and love that transcends time and distance. Whether you have one close friend or a small circle, cherish them. And always remember, it’s better to have a few genuine friendships than a sea of surface-level connections.

Here’s to friendships that are real, lasting, and life-giving. 💕

Stop Comparing Yourself to the Highlight Reels Online

As the holiday season winds down and the new year approaches, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the steady stream of posts flooding your feed. People are proudly sharing their Christmas gifts, sparkling holiday moments, and ambitious New Year’s resolutions. It’s natural to pause and wonder: Am I doing enough?

selective focus photography of person using iphone x

Here’s the truth you need to hear: you are enough just as you are.

Social media often shows the highlight reels of someone else’s life. Rarely does it capture the quiet struggles, the unfinished lists, or the moments of doubt we all face. It’s easy to get caught in the trap of comparison, especially during a season so focused on outward appearances.

But your journey is yours alone. If you didn’t have an elaborate Christmas or a mountain of gifts, that’s okay. If you haven’t mapped out your New Year’s goals—or if your only goal for the coming year is to simply breathe and get through each day—that is more than enough.

Life is not a competition or a checklist to keep up with someone else’s milestones. The beauty of your journey lies in its authenticity. You don’t have to live someone else’s life, and you don’t have to measure your worth by their standards. Simple Wellness Tips: How to Begin or Dig Yourself Out of a Slump

Here’s a gentle reminder as you scroll through those perfect snapshots online:

  • What you see is not the whole picture.
  • Your pace is your own.
  • Your worth is not defined by productivity or possessions.

Instead of comparing, try shifting your focus inward. Reflect on what brings you joy, peace, and fulfillment. Maybe that’s as simple as spending quiet time with loved ones, finding moments of laughter, or setting a single intention for the new year—like practicing gratitude or prioritizing rest.

You are not falling behind. You are living your life at your own speed. Trust that your journey, with its ups and downs, is exactly as it’s meant to be.

So, breathe deeply, release the pressure to measure up, and remember: your worth is inherent, unshaken by what anyone else is doing. Let this season be a celebration of your unique path, not a comparison to someone else’s.

You’ve got this. 💛

Mastering Life’s Challenges: The 24-Hour Rule

Life isn’t always smooth sailing. We all face hardships—moments that knock the wind out of us and leave us questioning how to move forward. Recently, I came across a reel that offered a simple yet powerful tip for navigating tough times, and I knew I had to share it with you.

close up of an old sign

In the reel, a woman explained a method she calls the 24-hour rule. She said she wishes she’d known about it years ago, especially as a woman navigating life’s challenges. The concept is straightforward but profound:

When faced with a hardship, give yourself 24 hours to feel everything—cry, yell, be angry, cuss, fuss, and do whatever you need to release those emotions. Let it all out without guilt. But after those 24 hours are up, it’s time to shift your focus. It’s time to start the bounce back. SETBACKS, REJECTIONS, AND STUMBLING BLOCKS ARE NECESSARY FOR GROWTH

Why the 24-Hour Rule Works

  1. It Honors Your Emotions
Life is messy, and emotions are valid. Suppressing how you feel only leads to bottled-up frustration or sadness. Giving yourself 24 hours to process your emotions allows you to honor what you’re going through without letting it consume you.
  2. It Builds Resilience
The reel emphasized that resilience is one of the best traits anyone can possess. Learning how to get back up after life knocks you down is a skill that will serve you over and over again. The 24-hour rule creates a balance between feeling your pain and deciding to move forward.
  3. It Keeps You Solution-Focused
We can’t heal in the same place we got sick. Laying around, replaying the problem in your mind, or dwelling on what went wrong only deepens the wound. After those 24 hours, focusing on solutions—not the problem—is what will propel you forward.
  4. It Puts Things in Perspective
As the reel pointed out, many of the situations or circumstances we stress over now won’t even matter in five or ten years. Why dwell on something that won’t have lasting significance? Instead, channel your energy into healing, growth, and what’s next.

As we prepare for a new year—a time of fresh starts and renewed intentions—this rule can be a powerful tool in your toolkit. Challenges will come, but how you navigate them makes all the difference.

Here’s how to embrace the 24-hour rule:

  1. Feel Fully: When something goes wrong, give yourself permission to feel. Journal, talk to a trusted friend, or even scream into a pillow if that’s what it takes.
  2. Set a Timer: Literally mark the 24-hour period. Knowing there’s a deadline to your wallowing can help prevent you from staying stuck.
  3. Take Action: Once the 24 hours are up, focus on what you can control. What’s the next step, however small, to move forward?
  4. Keep Perspective: Ask yourself, “Will this matter in five or ten years?” If not, let that realization lighten the emotional load.

As we approach a new year, we’re often encouraged to set big goals, dream new dreams, and create a vision for what’s ahead. But sometimes, we bring unresolved pain or worry into the new year. The 24-hour rule reminds us to process what we’ve been through without staying stuck in it.

Pass It On

I found the 24-hour rule incredibly helpful, and I hope it resonates with you too. As you navigate whatever life throws your way, remember: feel it, release it, and then focus on the bounce back.

Let this rule inspire you as you step into the new year with hope, strength, and clarity. You’ve got this.

Perimenopause: The Frenemy Who Thinks Sleep Is Overrated

Ladies, can we talk about our lovely friend Peri? You know, the one who likes to show up unannounced, uninvited, and full of surprises. Lately, Peri has been on a mission to convince me that I don’t need sleep. Apparently, she’s decided I’m fine running on broken sleep—the kind that comes in small crumbs, like the ones left at the bottom of a bag of chips. Spoiler alert: it’s NOT fine.

silhouette of woman at night

I’ve done everything I’m “supposed” to do. Logging off screens early? Check. Getting my workout done in the morning to burn off energy? Double-check. A warm bath or shower to relax? Yep, nailed that too. And let’s not forget my nightly cup of sleepy-time tea, which I drink religiously, hoping it will charm Peri into giving me just one peaceful night. But nope.

Peri has decided she’s my personal trainer of chaos, poking at me with her endless symptoms and ensuring that my sleep is served in tiny, unsatisfying fragments. Oh, I’ll get to sleep… but she’s there to make sure I wake up at 2:47 AM, staring at the ceiling and contemplating life’s mysteries, like why I can’t remember where I put my car keys. Navigating Perimenopause with Humor

The Joys (or Lack Thereof) of Perimenopause

Let’s be honest: Perimenopause is like that one frenemy who “accidentally” insults you while claiming to have your best interests at heart. She comes with:

  • Hot flashes at the most inconvenient times.
  • Mood swings that could rival a rollercoaster.
  • And, of course, her latest trick—broken sleep patterns that would make a toddler jealous.

But here’s the thing: I refuse to let Peri win. Sure, she might have me yawning in meetings or Googling “Can coffee cure all symptoms of perimenopause?” at 3 AM, but she won’t break me.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you have to laugh about it. Seriously, laughter might be the best sleep substitute. It’s either laugh or cry—and I’m saving the crying for when I find a new weird symptom Peri decides to surprise me with next month.

So, what can we do when Peri plays her games? We fight back, of course! With humor, grace, and maybe a few extra cups of coffee. Oh, and naps. Naps are my new best friend, even if they come with a side of guilt for “wasting time.” Spoiler alert: naps are NEVER a waste of time.

Ladies, We’ve Got This

If you’re in the trenches of Perimenopause too, let this post remind you: you’re not alone. Peri may be relentless, but so are we. So, cheers to all of us still showing up, even when sleep feels like a distant memory. May we conquer the chaos, laugh through the madness, and keep reminding ourselves that this too shall pass… eventually.

Until then, I’ll be here with my sleepy-time tea, hoping tonight is the night Peri decides to be kind.

Give Yourself Permission to Have Options: Life Isn’t Meant to Be a Box

Recently, I watched an Instagram video that really motivated me. A woman was sharing her experience as a mother, comparing how she feels with her fourth child versus her first. With her first child, she exclusively breastfed and felt immense pressure to do it “perfectly,” with no alternatives in sight. While she’s still exclusively breastfeeding her fourth child, she has formula tucked away in the cabinet—just in case. She’s given herself the option, the flexibility, and the permission to make a different choice if needed, and that simple shift has brought her peace of mind.

a handmade poster slogan

Her message was clear: give yourself options. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to fit into one mold or follow one rigid path—whether that’s breastfeeding or any other part of life. The idea of having choices can be empowering, especially in a world where we often feel boxed in by expectations.

Don’t Restrict Yourself: Life is Full of Choices

How often do we place restrictions on ourselves? We tell ourselves that we have to do things a certain way because it’s expected, or because we think there’s only one “right” way. We feel that pressure in every aspect of life—from how we raise our children to how we work, how we care for ourselves, and even how we spend our time.

But here’s the truth: life doesn’t have to be so rigid. You have the power to give yourself permission to choose. Whether it’s choosing to try formula when breastfeeding becomes overwhelming, deciding to take a day off work to focus on yourself, or allowing yourself to explore different paths in life—you can give yourself options. It doesn’t mean you’re giving up or that you’re not committed to something. It means you’re flexible enough to adjust when needed, and that’s a form of strength.

In today’s society, there’s so much pressure to get things “right”—to fit into certain roles, excel at everything, and make no mistakes. But we often forget that giving ourselves the space to choose is one of the greatest acts of self-compassion.

This mindset shift is about releasing the pressure and embracing the idea that we don’t have to lock ourselves into a single path. Whether it’s in motherhood, your career, or your personal life, options give you the freedom to adapt. Just like the mother in the video who kept formula on hand even though she was still breastfeeding, having options doesn’t take away from your commitment—it enhances your ability to navigate challenges.

It’s Okay to Change Your Mind

The key to living fully and authentically is to remember that you don’t have to restrict yourself to one way of doing things. You can change your mind. You can pivot. You can choose what’s best for you in the moment. Maybe it’s giving yourself the grace to switch from cooking elaborate meals every night to ordering takeout once a week. Or perhaps it’s choosing to step back from a commitment that no longer serves you and focusing on what brings you joy.

Everyday Life

Here are a few ways you can start giving yourself more options in your everyday life:

  1. Motherhood: Whether it’s breastfeeding, formula-feeding, or a mix of both, give yourself the flexibility to adapt to your needs. Don’t let societal pressure dictate how you care for your child or yourself.
  2. Self-Care: Instead of feeling like you have to follow a strict routine, give yourself permission to change it up. If you don’t feel like working out, rest. If you want to read instead of meditating, do that. You have the power to choose what feels best.
  3. Work-Life Balance: Remember that you can create boundaries around your work. Maybe one day you need to log off early to recharge. Or perhaps you need to choose a different career path altogether. It’s okay to change your mind as your needs evolve.
  4. Personal Life: Sometimes, we put ourselves in a box based on what others expect of us. But your life is your own. You can choose to pursue new hobbies, end friendships that drain you, or simply say “no” to things that no longer align with who you are.

The takeaway is simple: give yourself permission to have options. Life isn’t meant to be a set of rigid rules or a checklist of “shoulds.” It’s meant to be lived in a way that feels authentic and adaptable to who you are at any given moment. Don’t put yourself in a box or limit your possibilities. DON’T PUT YOURSELF IN A BOX Whether it’s as small as keeping formula on hand or as big as changing careers, you deserve the freedom to live with choice.

So, the next time you feel like you’re boxed in or pressured to follow one path, remind yourself: I have options. And you always will.

Monday Motivation: Stop Waiting for a Special Moment—Live Your Life Now

It’s Monday, and what better way to start the week than with a little motivation to stop waiting for that special moment to live your life? Recently, I had a conversation with a pastor, and we got to talking about the local bakery. He mentioned how he and his wife had a simple but powerful realization: they could enjoy birthday cake whenever they wanted. They didn’t need to wait for someone’s birthday or a special occasion to treat themselves to something they loved and wanted . If they had a taste for cake, they’d go get it—no excuses needed.

happiness is a piece of cake close up photography

That conversation struck me, and it reminded me of a reel I saw not too long ago. A young woman shared how she had to run to Target to grab a few items from her list, and even though it was a regular day and not a special occasion, she decided to dress up—just because it made her feel good. Or as she said, “Because I can and I want to wear this outfit.” No need for an excuse, no waiting for an event, just living in the moment and doing what felt right for her.

“Today is certainty, tomorrow is a hope. Live in certainty and hope for the best tomorrow.”-Giridhar Alwar

So often, we put off doing things that bring us joy because we think we need permission, or we convince ourselves we’ll wait for the “right time” or a special occasion. But here’s the truth: life is the special occasion. Every day is a chance to do something that makes you feel good, whether it’s buying that cake just because or dressing up for a simple errand.

Stop waiting for permission to live your life fully. You don’t need an excuse to enjoy the little things, to celebrate yourself, or to do something just for fun. If you’re craving a slice of cake on a Wednesday? Get it. If you want to wear your favorite dress to run errands? Do it. Live now, not later.

This week, let’s take a cue from the pastor and his wife—let’s indulge in life’s simple pleasures without hesitation. Simple Saturday Self-Care: Recharging After a Long Week

After a hectic week—especially one where my schedule’s been off due to my mom’s surgery—there’s nothing I look forward to more than a Simple Saturday Self-Care routine. It’s my chance to reset, recharge, and focus on the small things that make me feel refreshed. Self-care doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated; in fact, the best kind is often free and easy, giving you the space to breathe without adding more to your to-do list.

Here’s a glimpse into my Simple Saturday and why I think it’s so important to keep self-care low-key and effective.

1. Wake Up Naturally

Instead of setting an alarm, I let my body wake up naturally. After a long week, nothing feels better than a few extra minutes (or an hour!) of sleep. It sets a relaxed tone for the day, and I’m more energized without the sound of a loud alarm jarring me out of bed.

2. One-Hour Of Cleaning (And That’s It!)

I set a timer for one hour, and that’s all I dedicate to cleaning. Gone are the days where I spend my entire Saturday scrubbing and organizing, only to feel exhausted and like I’ve lost my day. Now, I tackle whatever needs to get done in that hour—whether it’s tidying up the kitchen, dusting, or putting away laundry—and once the timer’s up, that’s it! It’s so freeing to set limits on household chores and actually enjoy the day instead of getting stuck in a cleaning marathon.

3. Football and Breakfast with My Husband

After my hour of cleaning, it’s time to enjoy the best part of the day—breakfast and coffee with my husband while we watch college football. 🏈☕ There’s something about those quiet, shared moments that feels like the ultimate self-care. It’s relaxing, laid-back, and it gives us a chance to reconnect after a busy week.

4. Reading and a Little Beauty Care

Next, I carve out time for reading—a favorite book or catching up on some articles I’ve saved throughout the week. It’s my way of slowing down and letting my mind unwind. I will also take a few minutes to wash my makeup brushes. It’s a small but satisfying task that’s part of my self-care routine, ensuring my skin stays healthy and giving me a sense of accomplishment (plus, clean brushes just feel good!).

5. Relax, Recharge, Rejuvenate

The rest of the day is all about relaxing, recharging, and rejuvenating. Whether I’m lounging on the couch, taking a quick nap, or spend some time outside walking, the goal is to let my mind and body truly unwind. I’ve learned that self-care isn’t about ticking off a long list of activities—it’s about slowing down, keeping it simple, and doing things that nourish your mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

Keep It Simple, Keep It Free

The beauty of self-care is that it doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. Often, the simplest routines are the ones that give you the most peace. Waking up naturally, setting limits on chores, spending time with loved ones, and taking moments to rest and recharge are all things we can do at no cost. Self-care is about making time for yourself, listening to what your mind and body need, and enjoying those small moments that bring joy and calm.

So, if you’re feeling drained or overwhelmed, remember: self-care can be as easy as slowing down and enjoying your day. Keep it simple and let it refresh, recharge, and rejuvenate you from the inside out.
