🌞 How to Have Fun with What You Have This Summer

Summer is here—and contrary to what social media might make you think, you don’t have to spend big to have big fun. In fact, some of the best memories are made at local parks, city events, and spontaneous moments that cost little to nothing.

Over the last few years, we’ve made it a mission to explore what’s happening around us instead of waiting for a vacation or an invitation. We’ve discovered local gems like Thursday Night Live, Food Truck Fridays, and classic car weekend events. Now? These outings are traditions we look forward to every year. They’re affordable, exciting, and remind us that joy is often just around the corner—literally. Don’t Wait Until the Weekend to Have Fun: Embrace Joy Every Day

Here’s why having fun with what you have is a win:

  • It saves money.
  • It encourages you to explore your own city or nearby towns.
  • It gets you outdoors, away from screens, and into fresh air.
  • It helps you meet new people and try new things.
  • It allows for spontaneity and meaningful moments.

Whether it’s a trip to your neighborhood pool, a picnic at the park, or checking out a local concert series, these moments are more than summer fun—they’re about tapping into a new season of refresh and renewal.

This is your reminder: you don’t need to book a plane ticket or spend hundreds on entertainment to make summer special. Joy is already available. You just have to say yes to it.

🌼 Hello June: A New Season to Refresh, Refocus, and Bloom

As we flip the calendar and say hello to June, I can’t help but smile—because June isn’t just the start of summer. It’s a fresh reminder that we too can step into a new season in our lives.

Just like the trees stretch toward the sun and the flowers burst open in full color, we have the opportunity to shift, grow, and choose joy on purpose. Whether you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just needing a mental refresh, let this be your sign: your new season starts now.

💭 This month’s mindset: Life isn’t a to-do list. It’s a chance to live.

If we’re not careful, we’ll blink and find ourselves living from checklist to checklist—wake up, work, cook, clean, repeat. But summer gently invites us to lollygag a little. Yes, really. Laugh more. Sip something cold on a patio. Take a walk with no destination. Dance barefoot in your kitchen. SPRING, BLOSSOM, AND FLOURISH

Live. Don’t just exist.

☀️ Use the energy of summer to reset your soul

  • Get outside and let nature remind you of life’s simple beauty.
  • Visit a local park, beach, or pool—water has a magical way of helping us feel brand new.
  • Keep your skincare light and sunblock heavy. We’re glowing, not burning!
  • Plan something fun with friends or loved ones that doesn’t break the bank. It’s not about how much you spend, it’s about the memories you make.

💙 June also reminds us to honor the men in our lives

Whether your father is still with you, has passed on (like mine), or you’re celebrating a husband, brother, uncle, or friend—honor them. Not everyone celebrates Father’s Day the same, and that’s okay. Some of us are celebrating the memories while others are making new ones. There’s room for it all.

I personally celebrate Father’s Day with so much gratitude in my heart. My father taught me so much about strength, values, and love, and though he’s in heaven, I carry his lessons with me daily. I also thank God every day for my husband—he is my partner, protector, and constant reminder that love is worth cherishing.

🌸 Let this month be your personal bloom

So many of us are seeking clarity, peace, fun, healing, and more. Let June be the month you make small shifts to call those things into your life:

  • Say yes to more joy.
  • Say no to guilt about needing rest.
  • Protect your peace like sunscreen protects your skin.
  • Laugh out loud. Eat the fruit. Wear the sundress.

📓 A journal prompt to start your June:

“What part of me is ready to bloom this month, and how can I make space for that growth?”

🌿 Final thought

This month is all about refreshing your soul, refocusing your energy, and blooming with intention. You don’t need a big vacation to feel joy. Sometimes, it’s just a walk in the park, a good playlist, and time with the people you love.

Let’s walk into June together—with open hearts, protected skin, and plenty of reasons to smile.

Navigating Fall: Sweaters and Sandals Journey

The last time I checked, it’s fall, right? October has arrived, pumpkin spice is everywhere, and we’re seeing all the cozy sweaters in stores… but the weather? Upper 70s and low 80s! Is it just me, or does this fall weather feel like a sneaky reminder that the seasons don’t operate by the fashion calendar?

burning candles on a chair

Now, maybe it’s my age or the fact that I grew up in the Windy City, where the slightest hint of fall means we’re pulling out the layers and retiring the flip flops to the back of the closet. In Chicago, when September hits, when I was growing up, there’s a mental shift. Sweaters, boots, scarves—the whole wardrobe rotation goes into effect. But now, living in a place where “white Christmas” is more of a memory than a reality, I’m seeing folks rocking shorts and flip-flops like summer never ended! I get it—if you don’t need to own a snow shovel, why not keep those sandals handy?

But here’s the thing: I’m ready for sweater weather. Or shall I say the calendar tells me it’s sweater weather. Mentally, emotionally, and physically , I’ve transitioned into fall. I want that crisp air and those cozy layers, especially now that it’s October! In the mornings, I bundle up in a sweater, but by noon, I’m sweating bullets and wondering if I should have left one layer at home. None the less, the kids are heading to school ready for any kind of weather. It’s sweater weather at 8 a.m. but feels like beach day by lunchtime.

I know there are places in the world where summer clothes are a year-round vibe—and that’s amazing. But there’s something about this transitional weirdness that feels off to me. Maybe it’s my subconscious refusing to mix the seasons. It’s like my brain needs to put a period at the end of one season before starting the next. None of this summer-fall hybrid stuff! In my mind, it’s all or nothing: either we’re bundled up, sipping hot cocoa, and lighting pumpkin candles, or we’re fully in sundresses and iced tea mode. None of this halfway stuff. Monday Humor: Enjoy the Moment – It’s Still Summer!

I guess it’s sort of like life—sometimes, we feel like we need to completely close one door before we can confidently open the next. Maybe this weather is just a reminder that transitions aren’t always so neat and tidy. Sometimes, you have to live in the in-between for a bit—mixing sweaters with sandals, just like mixing old habits with new beginnings.

But I’ll tell you one thing: when that cool breeze finally does settle in for good, you’d better believe I’m going all in on the fall aesthetic—cozy sweaters, warm drinks, and ALL the fall feels. Until then, I guess I’ll just have to keep sweating through my flannel by noon and rocking that weird seasonal combo. Just like life, we ride the in between until we fully make it to the other side. Happy Fall Y’all!

WEEKLY BLOG: EASTER SUNDAY, LONG WORK DAYS, & SUMMER PLANNING

This week we are focusing on the end of the school year. What camps the kids are going to go to or if they want to go. Also because an agent left, I’m going to be working longer days until the new agent gets comfortable.

Sunday: Happy Easter!!!!!!! After getting in late last night from game night night, we showered and went to bed. My plans were to get up early and cook. I wanted to have dinner early and have a little time in the evening to relax before the work week. Because my kids are older some of the traditions we just don’t do anymore. I did get up early and have dinner ready by late afternoon early evening. We enjoyed more game night and then relaxed. The kids had a great time, enjoyed the food, and family. That is all that matters. We capped the evening off watching the NBA playoffs.

Monday: Finally a work day in which I don’t struggle to get up. Very brisk and cool this morning. Great start to a work week. Prepared to be at the office longer than usual this week. However, it made for a good day because I was busy all day. Dinner was simple because we had leftovers from Easter Sunday. After a long day and work out I was ready to turn in early.

Tuesday: I feel good this morning. I’m going to have a great day even though I will be at the office longer than usual. Had a good coffee date with the hubs this morning. And I had a chance to publish WHICH SELF CARE CATEGORIES ARE YOU DOING WELL IN?. It’s sunny but cool out. Until more storms tonight. Today we are planning our summer ”vacations”. We aren’t going to do a week long vacay anywhere. However, my family enjoys 3-4 day adventures to different cities and places. The kids have had a couple of request so we’re going to begin planning and prepping for that.

Wednesday: Cold rainy morning. Enjoyed coffee run with the hubs again, as we plan our son 16th birthday. Late last night we were successful in planning our summer plans and we wanted to begin the fall. Does anyone else do quarterly or seasonal planning? Sometimes we just like to have an idea or throw some things out there ahead of time. Couldn’t stay late at work today due to scheduling. Great evening with kids. It’s only 25 more school days and keeping them motivated is a challenge. But we’re getting through it.

Thursday: Very good journal writing session before heading off to work. I was feeling a little anxious. I have so much in my head I want to do or have started and exercising patience has been challenging. Even though I was very busy at the office today I was able to do some planning, create some ideas, and prepare for the second half of the year. After work, because it’s so beautiful out, I decided to walk outside. The calmness, clarity, and peace was amazing for me to have a great night in. Before bed, we finalized our plans for Mother’s Day.

Friday: Sort of busy this morning. With running errands and dropping off packages. Another long day at the office for me. Ready to check out for the weekend. Right now there isn’t too much planned for the weekend. I plan to do some work from home to get started on my summer goals and second half of the year goals. After work, which was a great day, my son tells me theres an event at his school he wants to go to. So now there is a wrench thrown in my plans. Also my aunt is leaving tomorrow so we were going to moms for the evening. WEEKLY BLOG: NEW PERFUME, DETOX, & VISIT FROM AUNT After dropping my son off, we headed to moms until the event was over.

Saturday: I have some plans to edit ideas and posts, as well as pictures for Poshmark. My aunt left early this morning and now I’m awaiting her safe call. It’s very nice outside so after work I plan to go out for a walk. Our Saturday was very chill relaxing. The hubs and I did some financial planning and discussed some things we wanted to do with the kids more. The kids opted to stay in and relax.

Have a great week everyone!!!!!

SUMMER, BEAUTY, AND SELF CARE

It’s hot outside and there are some summer beauty self care practices that I like to do to help me get through to the next season. In no particular order, here are some of my tips, tricks, and essentials.SPRING SELF CARE TIPS YOU CAN DO NOW

  1. Exfoliation-Of course we all know the benefits of exfoliation and removing dead skin cells. For me, exfoliating my face at least 3x a week and my body everyday almost is essential for my skin. Because I love to take a walk 🧘🏾‍♀️ outside and get some natural vitamin d, the sweat, grime, and environment gets into my skin. I don’t stop there, because I do workout and sweat more in the summer, it’s essential for me to do a scalp exfoliation. Literally from head to toe exfoliation is important.
  2. Moisturize-I know this seems completely against the norm, but even in the warm months moisturizer🧴 is an important summer beauty self care habit. Especially after tip #1 in exfoliating, moisturizing afterwards plumps your skin back up. Opt for a light water gel moisturizer for your face, a light body moisturizer that isn’t too heavy, or you can use those in shower moisturizers. Moisture is key for youthful looking skin from head to toe.
  3. Fragrance-We all still want to smell good. We are going lighter on the products as well as clothing. Go for a mild fragrance the last all day. I am a huge fan of Philosophy Pure Grace. This is a classic and timeless fragrance that walks with you all day. Also one thing about Pure Grace is you can layer it with other light fragrances.
  4. Colorful Diet-Lots of fruits, veggies, 🥗and water. You can go for fruit salads. Play around with many different kinds of green salads. Also a great refresher is fruit infused water. DIY Cucumber Lemon Water GREAT REFRESHERStaying hydrated often and daily is important to your summer self care. Not to mention, the more colorful your palette, the more vitamins and nutrients help with your skin and hair.
  5. Sunscreen-Please do not skip out on the sunscreen. Make sure to keep it on your hands while you’re driving. Also on your arm that sits under the window while you’re driving. Of course face and neck while exposed. If it’s quite hot, opt to not go out in the peak hours .
  6. Mani & Pedi-Have fun with your mani and pedi. 💅🏾Play with colors, patterns, and designs. Keep them fresh and show your personality through your mani and pedi. Going back to tip #1, always keep a pumice stone in the shower to ensure your feet stay smooth all summer long.
  7. Minimal Makeup-Keep your 💄 routine light and simple. Let your natural glow and skin come through. After moisturizer and sunscreen, enhance you beauty with a few products. Brow gel, mascara, primer that blurs, and a nice hot pink lipstick. Or shade of your choice. In the summer I always love to go bold on the lipstick.
  8. Fun-Enjoy your summer and have fun. 🤽🏾‍♀️No matter if you’re hanging out in the backyard or going on a vacation elsewhere. Soak up the sun and enjoy your life. You only get one. You’re not going to get summer 2021 back again. There aren’t any redo’s.

That’s all for my summer beauty self care essentials tips and tricks. As always, take care of yourself mentally and emotionally first. Then let the beauty on the inside shine through and glow on the outside. Have a great summer. Be safe!!!!!!
