GROWTH BEGINS WITH UNLEARNING

After watching a show last night and a young lady kept saying she wanted to change and not be closed off, harsh, mean, aggressive, and short with others, I was thinking she can’t change until she unlearns to relearn. This seems to be the most common theme amongst those who want to change, heal, grow, and be better. The simple factor to understand at the beginning of every journey, is growth begins when you start to unlearn. In order to be better you have to unlearn all the habits, thoughts, behaviors, and actions that you were taught or picked up as defense mechanisms.

quote on signboard on shabby wall near bright green leaves

Unlearning to relearn will take you down a road where you’ll meet pot holes, detours, speed bumps, and construction. You’re going to begin to question what you were taught. Why you were taught certain things. This will build mixed emotions. We don’t want to believe what we were taught or experienced was wrong but our behaviors and mechanisms were picked up from childhood. Keep in mind what we were taught or picked up wasn’t wrong per say. This young lady expressed she acts in such a harsh manner because that was the only time she received high praise from her mom and family.

Side note: When I used to watch my favorite show “Iyanla Fix My Life”, she would often ask guest “What did your mother teach you about being a woman?” Food for thought.

Unlearning to relearn takes time and more patience than you can bargain for. Your path to growth isn’t linear. Growth is a journey that takes you down many side roads and some you may have to double back on. It’s also important to remember it took your childhood, teenage years, and possible some adult years to develop those habits. So give yourself some grace. It won’t happen over night.

Relearning is going to require actively seeking new knowledge, skills, and experiences that align with your personal growth journey. In turn, this will open the doors of curiosity and your willingness and openess to try new things. Will you be out of your comfort zone? Yes. But that’s where the change happens. SPRING, BLOSSOM, AND FLOURISH

While relearning you’ll be required to humble yourself and admit you were wrong, don’t have all the answers, and need help. Thus forcing us to seek help and realize we need help to understand, organize our new thoughts, and find resources of support. Relearning is an ongoing process and will require a persistent commitment from you for your growth.

If you don’t know where to begin, start journaling some behaviors and habits you’d like to unlearn. How did those develop, how they make you feel, others feel, and why you want to grow from it. After self reflections, challenge your perspective and narrative about it. Then seek new ways of thinking and being. Finally be patient and kind with yourself.

YOUR NORMAL IS GOOD ENOUGH

I heard this while watching the basketball game the other day and can’t get it out of my head. The reporter asked the coach what was the advice given to the players in the highly intense game. “Your normal is good enough.” You don’t have to do anything extra or different. Do what got you here. When you try to do things differently or switch your game up, you lose your authentic self. Those talents, gifts, knowledge, and experiences is what makes you great.

colorful dots around question text

Thinking about this, this also applies to this long game we’re all playing called life. However, for us, we only get one life. There isn’t another chance like those players have another game. So to understand that you’re normal, whatever it is, is good enough. ALL THE TIME!!!!!

As I adopt this mantra, your normal is good enough, I encourage you to explore your “normal”. What exactly does that mean to you and for you? It means embracing your authentic self. What you’re great at. What you have challenges with. The small things that makes you unique, quirky, different, and fun. It’s knowing how you show up is good enough and more than enough. Knowing your normal is good enough means you lose the idea of perfectionism. MARCH TO YOUR OWN RHYTHM

Along with losing the idea of perfectionism, it means sticking to your game plan. Don’t try to adopt anyone else’s game plan. Just because it works for them doesn’t mean it will fit into your scheme or your end goal. You can be encouraged and inspired to tap into your own and grow within yourself.

In the office, your relationships, and within yourself your normal is good enough. Do what you’re great at, ask for help when needed, and know that what you possess is good enough. No one on this planet will have it all, be it all, do it all, know it all , or even be able to attain it.

Each day do what you normally do and see how much better your mental health becomes. Your confidence will grow. Giving you the ability to become the person you envision. How much at ease you’ll feel. The need to please is released. Thus leaving room for growth and development. Acknowledging your normal is good enough doesn’t mean we don’t challenge ourselves to greater heights.

Embrace your imperfections, celebrate your uniqueness, and live your life authentically, because in the end, it’s the journey that matters most, not the destination.

FINDING BALANCE IN LIFE: CAN YOU REALLY HAVE IT?

In our fast-paced digital and trendy world, the pursuit of balance in life seems like an elusive goal. Everywhere you turn the topic of finding balance in your life is upon you. But, can you truly ever have “balance?” We juggle careers, relationships, personal growth, health, and countless other responsibilities, often feeling like we’re on a tightrope, struggling to find stability. Or my favorite, we’re often that hamster on a wheel going no where fast. But amidst the chaos, is balance truly attainable? How do we determine if we can ever achieve it?

close up shot of scrabble tiles on a white surface

What is life balance? First, let’s get rid of this notion that we can have the “perfect” life balance. And once we find or get it, we’ll sustain it. Balance doesn’t mean allocating equal time and energy to every aspect of your life. Rather, it’s about prioritizing what matters most to you at any given moment and allocating resources accordingly. Life is a journey, and as we travel through our journey our priorities will shift and change. We’ll have peaks and valleys. There will be light and darkness. Embracing this road, the changes, and different seasons will determine how well we “balance”.

So where do we begin seeking this balance in life? To determine if balance is achievable for you, start by identifying your priorities. What brings you joy, fulfillment, and a sense of purpose? Is it your career, relationships, health, hobbies, or personal growth? Reflect on what truly matters to you, both in the short and long term. From there, be intentional on what you want to achieve. After that’s clear drive your focus. What we put our focus into will grow.

Once you’ve identified your priorities, assess how you’re currently allocating your time and energy. Are you spending the majority of your resources on activities that align with your priorities? Or are you caught up in tasks that drain you without contributing to your overall well-being? Be honest with yourself and consider where adjustments can be made. As of late I started meal prepping to ensure I not only had lunch the next day, but lunch for my specific eating goals. This also give me the ability to switch my workout time to get me to bed earlier. MENTAL HEALTH AND SELF CARE IS FREE

Perfection is boring!!!!! It’s essential to understand finding balance in life doesn’t mean you’re striving to be perfect. Life is messy, and there will inevitably be times when certain areas receive more attention than others. Sometimes life will take you down a road where the only win for you on a given day is waking up and brushing your teeth. Embrace imperfection and give yourself permission to prioritize self-care and flexibility. Remember, it’s okay to say no to commitments that don’t align with your priorities.

Check out some of my current favorite indulgences that keep me comfortable, happy, peaceful, and organized. Also helps me maintain my sense of “balance.”

Mindfulness and living intentionally is important while trying to pursue balance. By staying present and synced to your thoughts, feelings, and actions, you can make conscious choices that support your well-being. Incorporate mindfulness practices such as meditation, deep breathing, or journaling into your daily routine to cultivate inner peace and clarity. If that’s not your thing, give yourself 5 minutes of silence to connect to you. Feel you. Hear you. What do you need? Check in with your plate that day. What have you eaten? What does your body need? Have you moved enough?

While you’re finding balance, ask for help. Achieving balance doesn’t have to be a solo journey. Reach out to friends, family, or a professional coach for support and guidance. Surround yourself with people who uplift and encourage you to prioritize your well-being. Building yourself a foundational system that you can rely for honesty, encouragement, peace, comfort, joy, and direction . Also be mindful of the content you consume, how much, and the purpose behind the content.

Finally, be realistic about what balance means for you. Everyone “balance” in life looks different. Not everyone is seeking balance. Do what makes you feel good and able to navigate your day peacefully. It’s essential to adjust your expectations based on your journey. Your road may have more turns and hills. While others may be a little more flat. Understand that balance is a never ending journey that requires ongoing effort and adaptation. Celebrate small victories along the way and be compassionate with yourself during times of imbalance.

On a final note, while achieving perfect balance may be an unattainable ideal, finding harmony in life is within reach. By identifying your priorities, assessing your time and energy allocation, embracing imperfection, cultivating mindfulness, seeking support, and adjusting your expectations, you can navigate the complexities of life with greater ease and fulfillment. Remember, balance is not a destination but a journey—an ongoing pursuit fueled by self-awareness, intentionality, and compassion. #Bewell

EMBRACING THE JOYS OF FREE WEEKENDS

I’ve always found the question “What are you doing this weekend?” a bit burdensome. It seems to carry with it an expectation of grand plans or exciting adventures, when sometimes all I crave is quiet solitude or a chance to unwind without a set agenda. It can sometimes feel like a reminder of societal pressures to constantly fill our days with activities. So instead of dreading the question, I’ve learned to simply answer pleasantly, “absolutely nothing.” I’m not ashamed to say nothing, feel like I’m missing out, or not living.

Let’s talk about the sheer joy of having weekends void of duties and itineraries! Ah, the feeling of waking up on a Saturday morning with absolutely nothing on your agenda except for indulging in whatever your heart desires. It’s a luxury we often overlook in our fast-paced lives, but oh, how rejuvenating it can be!

Imagine no alarms interrupting your precious sleep. No deadlines looming over your head, and no obligations pulling you in different directions. Instead, picture yourself leisurely sipping your favorite brew, whether it’s a steaming cup of coffee or a refreshing herbal tea, as you soak in the tranquility of the morning. I love waking up slowly, taking my time choosing which comfy outfit it will be for the day, and sipping my new favorite tea ginger and honey. 3 SELF CARE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEKEND

With your weekends free, you have the freedom to explore your passions and hobbies without any time constraints. Whether it’s immersing yourself in a captivating book, unleashing your creativity through art or music, or simply spending quality time with loved ones, the possibilities are endless. Or binging on that one show you’ve been recording.

And let’s not forget the joy of spontaneity! When you have no fixed plans, every moment becomes an opportunity for adventure. Maybe you’ll decide to try a new restaurant. After lounging for sometime, maybe you’ll decide to go visit someone, stop for ice cream, or take a walk in nature. The opportunities are endless.

But most importantly, having weekends free of duties and itineraries allows you to recharge and nourish your soul. In a world where busyness is often glorified, taking time to rest and rejuvenate is essential for your well-being. An unpopular opinion is that one of the best luxuries in life is to be able to relax not just body but mind as well. So, embrace the joy of free weekends, my friends, and let yourself relish in the simple joys of life. After all, sometimes the most fulfilling moments are found in the spaces between plans. 🌼✨

Weekly Mental Health Reminders

  1. Celebrate and focus on your progress. Something could have broke you, but you didn’t let it. Focus on your journey and don’t compare yourself to others.
  2. Go to the doctor. Make that dentist appointment. Get that lab work done. Take care of your physical health. It has a great impact on your mental wellbeing.
  3. Set small goals you can achieve. Starting big leaves room for disappointment, lack of motivation, and easy to let go. Starting small allows room for growth and improvement.
  4. If you didn’t break it, it’s not yours to fix. If you can’t do anything about it, stop worrying about it. Release what’s out of your control. GENTLE REMINDER ABOUT SELF CARE
  5. Set a time daily to unplug and disconnect from technology. Give yourself periodic social media detoxes. This will enhance your productivity.
  6. Mistakes, setbacks, and challenges are all apart of growth. They are going to happen. They need to happen. How you learn, respond, and grow is the test.
  7. You grow when you step outside of your comfort zones. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself to do different.
  8. Forgive yourself. Forgive others. It’s better for our mental health to let the grudges go.
  9. Take time to unwind each night. Put a period on the day. Each day is a new opportunity.
  10. Therapy is a good thing. If you aren’t getting what you need with what you’re doing. Seek additional resources when needed.

Take care of yourself. You owe it to yourself. You can’t get a redo on any given day. Keep it simple and enjoy this one life you’ve been given.

DECLUTTER YOUR SPACE & RENEW YOUR SPIRIT

What is on this weekend self care list? Declutter, spring cleaning, renewing the energy and refreshing the spirit in the house. Cleaning closets, getting rid of old clothes and shoes, shredding mail, cleaning junk drawers, cleaning the deep freezer, and refreshing the linen for spring. 3 SELF CARE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEKEND

woman in brown jacket and blue denim jeans standing beside white wooden shelf

Have you been feeling overwhelmed, chaotic, anxious , can’t remember your to do list, and not with it? Well, take a look at your surroundings. Your home, car, office, closets, junk drawers, and any other space you occupy may have something to do with it. If those places are cluttered, messy, and everything is out of place, well it’s no wonder you are feeling stressed.

It’s no secret that a cluttered, disorganized space can leave us feeling overwhelmed and uninspired. However, by taking a time, day, or weekend to clean, declutter, and donate old items, we not only refresh our homes but also rejuvenate our spirits.

Declutter Your Space: Clutter has a way of weighing us down, both physically and mentally. When our homes are filled with excess belongings and disorganization, it can be challenging to focus and find motivation. That’s why decluttering is such a powerful tool for refreshing our living spaces and our spirits. Start by tackling one area at a time, sorting through items and deciding what to keep, donate, or discard. As you clear away the clutter, you’ll create space for clarity, creativity, and renewed motivation to flourish.

Tip: Give yourself a time limit based upon your lifestyle. Ex. If you haven’t worn it in a year or six months get rid of it or donate it. If you can’t fit it, donate it if possible. Don’t keep things for “just in case.” If that “just in case” hasn’t happened, then it won’t. Everything should have a place and there’s a place for everything. Too much STUFF can be overwhelming.

Donate Old Clothes to Charity: As you declutter your home, consider donating old clothes to charity. Not only does this act of kindness benefit those in need, but it also lightens your load and refreshes your wardrobe. When we let go of items that no longer serve us, we make room for new opportunities and experiences to enter our lives. Knowing that your old clothes will find new life with someone else can bring a sense of fulfillment and purpose, motivating you to continue decluttering and giving back to those in need. Self Care: Declutter and Make Room for Growth

In donating old clothes, this will give the push or confidence needed to step outside your comfort zone and dry different style ideas. Open your mind to new ways of living and being.

Refresh Your House: Once you’ve decluttered and donated, take the opportunity to refresh your home with a thorough cleaning and organization session. Clear away dust and grime, rearrange furniture for a fresh perspective, and add small touches like plants or artwork to breathe new life into your space. As you transform your home into a clean, inviting safe space, you’ll find yourself feeling more motivated and inspired to tackle whatever challenges lie ahead.

Cleaning, decluttering, and donating old items may seem like simple tasks, but their benefits goes far beyond a clean home. By clearing away physical clutter and refreshing your space, you create room for mental clarity, creativity, and renewed motivation to think and just be. So, the next time you’re feeling stuck or uninspired, consider taking a look at your surroundings and embark on a journey of cleaning, decluttering, and donating. You’ll be amazed at the transformation that unfolds – both in your home and in your spirit.

CONSISTENCY: FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED

In a world that is forever changing with new technologies, trends, and aesthetics , it is very easy to lose patience, gratitude, and interest . No matter if you’re starting a business, blog, family, new career, savings, or self development journey you’ll need consistency, patience, and focus to finish out what you started. You never know how it could have been if you don’t see it through. This, I had to remind myself, that what we need and want is often right within our grasp – if only we pause, appreciate, and persevere.

stones on beach on sea shore

As I began to research, plan, and build my Etsy store, I had to pause and think I have everything I’m looking for in front of me. I haven’t been consistent on the blog, I’m still selling on Poshmark, and still a freelancer. Not to mention a mom of three teenagers and an husband. With great hesitation I put my Etsy store on pause. Whenever starting something new it takes great effort, time, and resources. Instead let’s harness the power of staying in the present and being consistent. What we need and desire might be right in front of us.

If you ask any millionaire or celebrity the key to their success, it’s always staying the course when you don’t have motivation, no one believes in you, you don’t see results, and keep doing even if you’re tired. Success is often a product of small, consistent actions accumulating over time. Will there be times you slip?! Absolutely. But the beauty is you get back up.

The satisfaction of completing a project or seeing something through should remain motivation enough to be consistent. Remember your why. Being able to recognize, own, and share your growth is invaluable. Finish what you started – the rewards extend beyond the immediate task.

When faced with obstacles, it’s tempting to abandon ship and chase new adventures. This I have to remember and tell myself when I don’t get views, a contract, or bad review. I remember my why. What my purpose is. Don’t give up too easily; every obstacle is an opportunity to refine your skills, resilience, and determination. MENTAL HEALTH REMINDER: TRUST YOURSELF

Sometimes, getting that instant gratification isn’t what we need or desire. Patience is a virtue, and trust in the process is paramount. When there is an obstacle, I know there is a lesson that I need to learn. It’s important to get that lesson before moving on and understanding the work that needs to be done. Instant success isn’t sustainable.

In the pursuit of our dreams and goals, it’s crucial to remember that success isn’t just about starting new ventures but about completing the ones we’ve already embarked upon. Let’s celebrate consistency, embrace the art of finishing, and trust that what we need and want is already in motion – we just need to stay the course.

Hello there…

I thought I’d pop in here and remind you to continue to plant yourself with seeds of faith, hope, inspiration, love, and joy.

white printed paper with four white roses

We’re four days into March and spring is quickly approaching. As the days grow longer and the world begins to awaken from its winter slumber, let this be a reminder that just like nature, we too have the power to bloom and flourish.

March signifies a fresh start, a chance to shed the old and embrace the new. The flowers are pushing through the soil, the trees are budding with new life, and so can you. Push your way out of whatever is holding you back. Take this opportunity to plant the seeds of your dreams and watch them grow.

This is your season to shine, to blossom, and to flourish. Happy March, and may this spring be the beginning of something beautiful in your life!

IT’S BEEN A WHILE…

Hello, there…it’s been a while since I last visited. Life is a world wind and it’s important to pause, breathe, and take a minute to self discover. We live in an insanely fast paced, social media, digital driven world that it’s often overlooked at how mundane ones daily life can be. True profound growth happens in moments of stillness. So what have I been doing?

Without question, focusing on my health. Although in my head I’m a young 20something, my body isn’t. One of my new year goals was to focus on my health. I understand maintaining great health between the ages of 45-50 is essential. Keeping up with doctor’s appointments and following up. When I see something or feel something I don’t just ignore it, I make an appointment to see my doctor. Going to the dentist and eye doctor was on my to do list as well. It’s better to be proactive than reactive.

texta sticky note around crumpled yellow papers

Along with going to the doctor, maintaining myself at home has helped me stay intentional and mindful. Eating with color. I’ve divulged in creating healthy homemade meals that focus on heart health, gut health, and ensuring myself and my family are eating healthier. Stretching morning and night has increased my overall health. Resting during the day has been one of the biggest benefits to my absence. Instead of coming straight in from work and doing work at home, I give myself a time off. Allowing myself to do what my body and mind wants to do and not over work it.

I can say my mental and emotional is at the best it’s been. I do understand it’s a journey and not a destination. Not just resting my body, but taking a moment to lie down in silence with just the sun peaking through for 15minutes helps me refocus and center my energy. The most important thing we can do in any situation is to stop and breathe. Nothing is ever so crucial that you need to respond or react instantly. 10 MENTAL HEALTH REMINDERS

Next, while on my hiatus, I was eliminating my screen time. Have you noticed there is a new trend, it seems, every other day. I’m talking about in fashion, beauty, tech, self care, money, relationships, and everything else you can think of. We have become so fixated on the trend that no one has any personal identity. Where’s the personal style? Everyone has the same “uniform” on when you go out. Beauty and skincare is no longer about personality and self expression. Who has the latest tech vice, that cost too much money. If you have a phone then you are a relationship guru. Even self care has seem to become a fad or gimmick.

If we aren’t careful, we will find ourselves down a path of confusion, lack of self awareness, and broke. Honey, keeping up with all these trends will drain your pockets. You don’t have to follow them. Wear what you want. Self expression is the best form of self care. It enables you to be your authentic self and not have the burden of being “in”. Save your money. Keep it simple and focus on what your body tells you it needs.

Lastly, I’ve been letting the universe tell me where to focus my energy. There have been times I’ve sat down to write and never posted. I wanted to be intentional about listening to my body and mind. I still want to encourage you all to believe in the dreams, goals, and ideas that have been placed in you. Take care of your mind, body, and spiritual health. Enjoy stillness and let life guide you. Become so self aware that you can be calm in the eye of the storm.

Until next time…Be well!!!!
