HELLO SEPTEMBER

Yup, it’s September 1, 2023. Where has the time gone? For some September is about pumpkin spice latte’s, apple cider, fall festivals, pumpkin patch visits, and my favorite, decor. However, September is exciting because football is back, a plethora of new fall TV shows, and back to school. Lastly, who doesn’t love fall fashion? Fall can be the best time of year for fashion. You get to wear sweaters, boots, layer, and get creative.

While all of that is exciting and great entertainment, September reminds us that the end of the year is quickly approaching. Some stress over Christmas holiday shopping, have they reached their goals, and what are they going to before the clock strikes midnight on December 31. You’ll probably going to see an increase of content on what to do these last couple of months to achieve your goals. How to set yourself up for next year. Or, you should already be thinking about next year. Either way it can be stressful.

Please remember that it’s great content to keep you motivated, on track, and getting your juices flowing for your life. However, consuming the content without filters can cause some to feel like they aren’t doing enough, they have failed at their goals, it’s too late, times running out, or they aren’t working hard enough. When it comes to consuming that information, take the tips and tricks that apply to your lifestyle and create realistic systems and goals to live your life. Leave the rest.

As we say hello September, think about what you need to feel free and light. Just like the leaves fall for the season, what do you need to get rid of that isn’t serving you. If you’ve been stressing over the same thing for months, nothing has changed, let if fall with the leaves. You’ve tried something and it wasn’t what you thought, OH WELL, you tried. Take the good lessons you learned from it, and move on to something else. Get rid of what you need to sleep, rest, and have peace at the end of each day. 7 HEALING JOURNAL PROMPTS FOR A PEACEFUL WEEK

With our hello this month, we’re going to see some new colors bring life to nature. That’s our hint to add some color and life into our daily routine. If you haven’t been one to attend a fall festival find one close to you to visit. Have you been apple picking, to a pumpkin patch (yes we plan to go this year even though my kids are teenagers), or an hayride. The goal here is to find something local, free or close to free, do something that you never done, and explore.

This is a trick I started last year and have enjoyed. This summer we stopped by our local Ford Enthusiast festival that is held every year, but have never went. They had food, live bands, games, and endless Ford cars displayed for one weekend. We had a blast. All it takes is to try.

Say hello to September. Enjoy your lattes, soups, chili’s, and cobblers. Get comfy cozy in your favorite sweaters and live colorful. Your heart, mind, and body will reward you.

10 NEW YEAR SELF CARE HABITS FOR A FRESH START

As the end of the year approaches many people are making their visions boards, setting goals, and making their new year resolutions. All of those are great to have and implement, however there are 10 self care habits that I do behind the scenes.

In no particular order, here are 10 self care habits I do before the start of the year. These habits help me clear my mind, spirit, and home for a fresh start.

  1. Laundry Clear Out
This is something we did growing up. At the start of the new year we couldn’t have any dirty clothes in the home. On New Years Eve, all laundry was to be washed, folded, and put away. As a bonus tip, as you are washing clothes, throw out any items that are too little, old, or you haven’t worn in the last couple of months. It makes no sense to carry baggage into the new year. If you haven’t worn it in the last 3 months then you probably won’t be wearing it anytime soon. If the clothes are too little, we don’t save it for when we lose weight. Once you’ve lost weight it’s time to get some fresh new clothes that fits your new body.
  2. Rearrange Furniture
To give you a new perspective visually rearrange your furniture. If you are able to do as many rooms as possible. This will give you a new spunk about starting the new year with a fresh outlook. Start in your living room, move to the bedrooms, and if you can do your kitchen or dining table. This also forces you to take a different route when walking through your home.
  3. Organize and Declutter
When you begin to clean up those Christmas Decorations make sure everything has a place and there is a place for everything. When putting your home back together if there are some items that you don’t use or have a space for get rid of it. You can donate it, sell it, or trash the item. Decluttering is great way to get your mental into a space for new ideas, energy, and make room for something new.
  4. A Day of Good Hygiene
Before the new year do a good day of self care. A nice long bath or shower. Wash and condition hair. Get a hair trim if you can. Don’t forget to shave, wax, or laser. Have yourself a good simple mani and pedi. The goal is from head to toe make sure you are clean, fresh, groomed, and feeling good to start the new year.
  5. Spring Clean Your Home
Yeah, it seems weird to spring clean your home in the winter. But self care is taking care of your home. Before rearranging furniture, wash windows, vacuum, mop floors, wipe down everything, and add some fresh scent to your home. Open the windows, curtains, and blinds for some fresh air and sun light. Even if its cold where you live. Just for a few or as long as you can stand it, let some fresh air in and filter out all the bad.
  6. Keep $1 In Your Pocket
This goes back to when I was a little kid. My family always stressed everyone having at least $1 in their pocket, savings, or bank account. The thought process was to never ring in the new year broke. Even if you had $1, you can turn that $1 into more through out the year.
  7. Get A New Plant
Starting the new year with a new plant, gives you something to focus on. Even if you don’t have a green thumb. You have to repot it, water it, and keep it healthy through the year. As you learn and grow your plant, you have to refresh your soil throughout the year. So every time you walk past your plant think of yourself and take care of yourself through the year.
  8. Shred Old Mail
This is apart of my weekend self care tips SELF CARE HABITS: 6 WEEKEND HABITS FOR A GOOD WEEK but go through your home and get rid of any old mail. Clear out your purse and wallet to make room for new blessings to come.
  9. Clean Fridge & Cabinets
Start fresh by cleaning out your fridge and cabinets. So many have weight loss goals for the first of the year, however decluttering the fridge gets rid of temptations. Make room for the healthy food. You won’t feel like you can’t start your weight loss journey until that food has been eaten.
  10. Pray, Meditate, Cleanse Your Spirit
Before we can start any kind of new journey we shall pray and meditate. Get your spirit ready to start fresh and anew. If we aren’t centered and have clear mental space then anything we try will seem difficult. Get into a space, vibe, and energy. That way your physical and emotional being will begin to align with whatever you are trying to do.

These are 10 self care habits that I do starting the week of New Years. I know it may seem like a lot. But starting at the beginning of the week prepares me mentally, emotionally, and physically. That way by the time the 31st rolls around I’m ready to continue. The process takes time, so after having 5-7 days of being in a new mental space it will be easier for me to continue. So often we make the mistake of starting on the 1st.

The goal is to get you prepared mentally, emotionally, and spiritually before you begin your goals. Having a good thorough cleanse makes us ready to receive new. Out with the old, and in with new.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!!! Be Safe!!!!! Be Well!!!!!!

Create Plans, Systems, and Habits For The New Year

It’s that time of year where people are talking about their new year’s resolutions. Instead of resolutions create plans, systems, and habits for the new year. I’ve never like this idea or really been able to answer the question “what’s your New Years resolution?”

Instead of a New Years resolution I think its more important and/or effective to create a lifestyle with systems and daily habits. Have a plan for your life in year. Break that plan down into half year goals, seasonal or quarterly goals, and then monthly goals. If needed you can even break it down into weekly goals until it has become habit. Setting goals, making plans, and listing somethings you’d like to accomplish in a year is more realistic and obtainable.

So often when we set resolutions they barely last a month or even a week sometimes. That’s because it hasn’t been thoroughly thought out, made with intention, and done at the spare of the moment.

Before creating a system or change you must ask yourself what is my end goal here? How long will it take me to reach my end game? What do I need in the process? If I have to make a detour what is my course of action to get back on track? What do I need to put into place to begin? What are the steps of this goal?

To make anything sustainable we have to be patient, persistent, and consistent. Yes there will be road blocks but we will overcome them. The systems set by our daily habits will allow us to get back into to gear when something happens. Life is going to continue but its how we push through that makes us strong. When we push through obstacles that gives us the confidence and motivation to continue on with our goals. Now we won’t give up or lose sight on what we sought out to achieve.

When you have an outline of your goal you’re able to track progress. You can adjust the goal if necessary. Increase or decrease your course of action, add or delete some steps in the process, and have a visual.

For example, if you have a weight loss goal, make a plan to lose 5lbs in the first month or two. Because you have a goal you know you have to eat a balanced diet and exercise to achieve that goal. Look at your work week, schedule of things to do with the kids or family in the week, and figure when it will be best to work out for at least 30 minutes 4 times a week. Anyone can say “I want to get fit” but what does that mean without a plan and goals behind it.

Along with setting goals and creating an action plan, having a system in place will assist you in achieving the goals you want. Having systems in place with daily habits that are pushing you toward your goal allows you to remain present in the moment. The systems of daily habits become the lifestyle change you are striving for. You can’t have one without the other. Create plans, systems, and habits to set you up for success this year.

Back to the weight loss example, you will need a system of when and how often I need to go to the grocery store to ensure I have what I need before, during, and after workout. Along with what will my daily meals and snacks look like. Waking up to making sure you don’t skip breakfast is a great daily habit to begin with. What am I going to have for lunch, what is my snack for the day, or what is the plan for dinner.

No matter what it is, you want to accomplish, create a plan for it. Vacation, remodeling the home, purchasing a new car, or whatever make an intentional plan. I know it may seem like a lot or it can be overwhelming in the beginning but once it becomes habit and who you are it won’t phase you one bit. Living the life you envisioned, deserve, and sought for is the best reward.

We have to make it a lifestyle and part of who we are. It has to be about us, for us, and by us otherwise it’s just empty words of hopes of what we’d like to do and accomplish.
