Mental Note of the Day: Choose the Day You Have

This morning after dropping my son off, I headed toward work like I normally do.

My route takes me through a quiet residential area. The kind of neighborhood where the morning is still slow, the streets are calm, and you can actually notice what’s around you.

The sun was shining.
The air felt warm.
The wind was blowing just enough to remind you that spring is trying to arrive.

It was one of those mornings where you instinctively take a deeper breath and think, this feels good.

As I was driving, I noticed three people walking up ahead.

photo of two women and man jogging with dog on pavement

I smiled and said to myself, “Okay, get it y’all… enjoy that sunshine and get that early walk in.”

But as I got closer, I looked a little harder.

And that’s when I started clapping.

The three people walking together were all using blind walking sticks.

There they were—walking side by side, talking, laughing, enjoying themselves like any group of friends on a morning stroll.

In that moment, something hit me.

They weren’t focused on what they couldn’t see.
They were focused on the day they had.

They were enjoying the conversation.
Enjoying the fresh air.
Enjoying the moment.

And I thought to myself, if they can choose joy in that moment, what excuse do the rest of us really have?

Choosing Joy Even With Challenges

Life will always present challenges.

Some are small inconveniences.
Some are heavy and difficult.

But one thing remains true: we still get to choose how we meet the day. Mental Health Reminder: Living With Less Is Not Living Without

Those three walkers reminded me that happiness is not always about perfect circumstances. It’s often about perspective.

You can still:

  • laugh with friends
  • enjoy the sunshine
  • move your body
  • appreciate the moment

Even when life isn’t exactly how you imagined it to be.

We spend so much time focusing on what we lack that we miss what’s already in front of us.

Sometimes the most powerful shift we can make is simply asking ourselves:

What can I appreciate about today?

Staying in the Moment

One of the most underrated forms of self-care is simply being present. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GWPKD22J

Not worrying about tomorrow.
Not replaying yesterday.

Just stepping outside, feeling the air, hearing laughter, and recognizing that this moment right now is still a gift.

Those three people didn’t need perfect vision to see the value of the day.

They simply chose to experience it.

A Gentle Reminder

Let this be today’s reminder:

You don’t have to wait for life to be perfect to enjoy it.

You don’t have to solve every problem before allowing yourself to smile.

You can choose to appreciate the sunshine.
Choose to connect with others.
Choose to stay present.

Even when challenges exist.

Joy often begins with a decision.

Fun Question of the Day

If you had a completely free sunny afternoon today, what simple thing would you go do just to enjoy the moment?

A walk?
Ice cream?
Sitting outside with a book?
Calling a friend?

Whatever it is, don’t just think about it.

Go do it 🤍

30-Day Writing Challenge: Finding Yourself Through Words ✨

I wrote this post a while back and never hit publish. Reading it again reminded me why I started writing about self-care in the first place — so here it is, finally seeing the light of day.

Life has a way of making us feel like we should be further along than we are. Whether you’re in high school, college, or even navigating adulthood, it’s easy to fall into the trap of comparison. Maybe you look at friends who seem to have it all figured out, or you scroll online and see highlight reels that make you feel behind. The truth? You are exactly where you’re meant to be.

a woman working from home

Recently, this became so clear to me while helping my two nieces and my kids. One niece is in nursing school, balancing long study hours with self-doubt. My other niece is in her third year of college, navigating independence, career choices, while questioning her path, and of course her boyfriend . My daughter is in high school, trying to figure out her direction as a young artist while managing being a teenager. And then there’s my son, who I was helping move around campus—where I noticed so many students needing mental and emotional support, encouragement, and guidance. There’s this sentiment floating around that they should already “be someone,” already know what they want, already have achieved something big. But I keep telling them what I’ll also tell you: growth doesn’t happen all at once—it happens little by little, and you are not behind.

That’s where this 30-day writing challenge comes in. Writing is one of the best tools for reflection, clarity, and self-discovery. These prompts are designed to help you slow down, get your thoughts out, and reconnect with yourself—whether you’re figuring out your next step, processing your emotions, or simply needing a reminder that you’re doing better than you think. JOURNAL WRITING: LIST OF 25 FAVORITES

This challenge isn’t about perfection—it’s about showing up for yourself.

Day 20 – What are three words you want others to use to describe you?
Day 21 – Write about something you’ve been avoiding—and why.
Day 22 – Describe what self-care means to you.
Day 23 – Write about a book, show, or movie that left an impact on you.
Day 24 – What’s one dream you haven’t shared with anyone?
Day 25 – Write about a time you surprised yourself.
Day 26 – What’s something you want to learn or try?
Day 27 – Write about your happiest childhood memory.
Day 28 – Describe how you feel when you’re most confident.
Day 29 – Write about someone you’ve lost touch with, and what you’d say if you met again.
Day 30 – What kind of person do you want to become, starting today?

This challenge isn’t about perfection or writing beautifully. It’s about showing up for yourself, creating space to reflect, and remembering that you are where you need to be.

High schoolers—this can help you uncover what matters most to you right now. College students—this can be your reset button when everything feels overwhelming. Adults—this can remind you that life is not a race, and your growth is still unfolding.

So grab a notebook, open a blank document, or even use the notes app on your phone. Let this be your permission to pause, breathe, and write yourself back home.

✨ You’re not “behind.” You’re right where you need to be. The story you’re writing—on paper and in life—is uniquely yours.

Progress Over Perfection: Embrace the Journey

The other day, I witnessed something that completely shifted my perspective on growth and success. Two coworkers were working on a tech project. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until they hit a bump in the road. After multiple attempts to troubleshoot, one of them decided to pause and revisit the issue later. As he began to log off and tidy up, he said something that struck me:

“Progress was made!”

man wearing white sweater and black shorts about to run

He said it with so much confidence, excitement, and pride that I couldn’t help but smile. He wasn’t hung up on the fact that they didn’t finish. He wasn’t stressed about what was left to do. Instead, he chose to celebrate the progress they had made.

Then he went to lunch.

This moment was a powerful reminder of the importance of embracing progression over perfection. Too often, we get caught up in the idea of “finishing” or doing things flawlessly. But what really matters is showing up, doing the work, and giving yourself grace along the way.

Why Progression Matters More Than Perfection

Perfection can be paralyzing. It sets an unrealistic standard and often leads to frustration and burnout. Progression, on the other hand, is about growth. It’s about moving forward, even if it’s one small step at a time.

  1. Progress Builds Confidence: Every step forward is proof that you’re capable. Even if it’s small, it’s a step closer to your goal.
  2. Perfection Is Overrated: Life isn’t a race, and no one has it all figured out. Progress allows you to adapt, learn, and grow at your own pace.
  3. Momentum Matters: When you focus on progress, you create momentum. Each win fuels your motivation to keep going.

Life is messy. Projects stall, plans shift, and obstacles pop up. That’s okay. Giving yourself grace means understanding that you’re human. It’s about allowing yourself to pause, reassess, and keep going without judgment.

You don’t have to match anyone else’s speed or timeline. Success isn’t about being the fastest; it’s about staying consistent and focused on your journey.

  • Define Your Own Milestones: What does success look like for you? Break your goals into manageable steps and celebrate each one.
  • Keep Moving Forward: Progress doesn’t have to be linear. Even a detour is part of the journey.
  • Trust the Process: Some days will be slower than others. Trust that each step is taking you where you need to go.

Watching my coworker confidently celebrate his progress was a powerful reminder that we don’t need to wait for the finish line to acknowledge our efforts. Instead of focusing on what’s left to do, focus on how far you’ve already come.

  • Pat Yourself on the Back: Take a moment each day to recognize your wins.
  • Share Your Excitement: Celebrate with those who support and uplift you.
  • Move On Without Guilt: You don’t need anyone’s approval to be proud of yourself.

Progress over perfection is more than a mindset—it’s a way of life. It’s about valuing growth over flawless results and celebrating every step of the journey. So the next time you’re tempted to stress about what’s unfinished, remember my coworker’s words:

“Progress was made!”

Embrace your wins, no matter how small, and keep moving forward. You’ve got this! 🌟

Are You a Morning or Night Person?

Have you ever wondered why some people leap out of bed with endless energy while others find their creative groove long after the sun has set? Whether you’re a morning person who thrives in the early hours or a night owl who comes alive as the day winds down, understanding your natural rhythm can help you tailor your day to make the most of your time and energy.

Morning People: Embracing the Dawn

If you love waking up early and feel energized as soon as your feet hit the floor, you’re likely a morning person. Morning people often find they’re at their best in the early hours, making this the perfect time to tackle important tasks, exercise, and enjoy some quiet time before the world wakes up.

Benefits of Being a Morning Person:

Tips for Morning People:

  1. Prioritize Tasks: Tackle your most important or challenging tasks first thing in the morning when your energy is highest.
  2. Exercise Early: Morning workouts can boost your energy levels and mood for the rest of the day.
  3. Enjoy Quiet Time: Use the early hours for meditation, reading, or planning your day without distractions.

Night People: Finding Inspiration After Dark

If you find your creative juices flowing and motivation peaking later in the day, you’re likely a night person. Night owls often feel more alert and focused as the day progresses, making the evening hours ideal for brainstorming, creative work, or deep thinking.

Benefits of Being a Night Person:

  • Enhanced Creativity: Many night owls experience heightened creativity and problem-solving abilities in the evening.
  • Quiet Time: Late-night hours are often quiet and free from interruptions, perfect for focused work.
  • Flexibility: Night people can enjoy a flexible schedule, making the most of their peak productivity times.

Tips for Night People:

  1. Identify Peak Times: Determine when you feel most alert and schedule your most demanding tasks during these hours.
  2. Create a Relaxing Morning Routine: Start your day gently, allowing yourself time to wake up fully before diving into work.
  3. Stay Active: Incorporate exercise into your day to maintain energy levels and promote better sleep.

The good news is that regardless of whether you’re a morning person or a night owl, you can tailor your day to suit your natural mood and maximize your potential. Here’s how:

1. Understand Your Energy Patterns: Pay attention to when you feel most energetic and focused. This self-awareness is key to planning your day effectively.

2. Schedule Accordingly: Plan your most important tasks during your peak energy times. For morning people, this might be early in the day, while night people might schedule their critical work in the late afternoon or evening.

3. Establish a Routine: Consistency is important for both morning and night people. Establish a routine that aligns with your natural rhythm to maintain balance and productivity.

4. Balance Work and Rest: Ensure you’re getting enough rest and taking breaks throughout the day. Overworking can lead to burnout, regardless of your preferred schedule.

5. Communicate Your Needs: If possible, communicate your preferred working hours to colleagues or supervisors. Flexibility in the workplace can help you perform at your best.

Whether you’re a morning person who thrives with the sunrise or a night owl who finds inspiration under the stars, understanding and embracing your natural mood is crucial. By tailoring your day and routines to match your energy patterns, you can ensure you’re giving yourself the best possible opportunity to have a productive and fulfilling day.

So, are you a morning person or a night person?

DAILY INSPIRATION: PATIENCE WHILE WAITING

In the last couple of months and my goal for the new year is to be patient. Not just to be patient but in good spirits, positive energy, and anxiety free. We all know that feeling. When we’re anticipating something or wanting something to happen quickly, the universe has a way of putting you on pause. I’ve learned to patiently wait with a good mindset.

clear glass with red sand grainer

The anxiousness in us is pushing for an outcome and most of the time the outcome we want isn’t the right one. Life has a way of working itself out. I’ve always said, “It may not work out how you want or thought it would, but it worked out how it was suppose to.” When it’s your time you will know. Many times what we’re wanting or expecting we’re not ready for.

While waiting do the right thing. Continue to expect good news and things to happen. Be positive. Motivating. Encouraging. Give your time, lend an ear, and give back what you can. Have faith that it’s going to work out. https://amzn.to/3RMWgSs Meditate, pray ,and journal for the strength to handle the outcome even it’s not your desired one. TIME AND PATIENCE ARE TWO IMPORTANT FACTORS FOR GROWTH

Mantra For Patience:

”I embrace the journey, knowing that the right things will come to me at the right time. I release the need to rush and trust in the timing of my life.”

When we release the need to rush the process, we open doors for unexpected blessings, miracles, and joys to enter. Therefore, we create a space for us to enjoy every moment as they come and not feel guilt, shame, or worry. Thank you for peace and clarity.

Take a mental note and remind yourself you are exactly where you need to be. You have exactly what you need each day. Your path is specially designed for you. Every twist, turn, peak, and valley is necessary for your personal growth, journey, and fulfillment.

As you go through each day remember to let the universe guide you. Don’t rush or worry. Embrace the moment you are in presently. https://amzn.to/47BXPZg Practice self love, self care, and gratitude. Lastly, reflect back on a time when things worked out perfectly and it wasn’t what you expected. How did you feel? What did you learn about yourself?

MENTAL NOTE OF THE DAY

”As bad as you want to address it, somethings are better left unsaid.” -@lowkyluv

I saw this quote and instantly thought of the conversation I had with my mom on Christmas. It’s no secret we haven’t been on the best terms. But what I had to do was understand her why behind her actions. While loving from a distance and giving myself the ability to heal and figure how I was going to participate in relations with her, I found the peace I needed. EMOTIONAL HEALING: OPEN YOUR MIND FOR UNDERSTANDING

book page

So on Christmas when we were having a good conversation, she repeatedly asked if there was a way my brother and I could sit down and tell her everything she did so she can have a better relationship with us. She continually said she’ll listen and won’t get upset. I didn’t respond. I gave her the time and space to say whatever she needed. But I would not give in and respond to her request. As a matter of fact, thinking back, I didn’t give a millisecond thought of telling her what she did.

For me, I resolved whatever emotions and feelings I had. I didn’t need answers or an explanation. Nor did I need an apology. Lastly, I was ok with not having her acknowledge the past. It took me a while but once I understood and recognized it was my feelings and emotions to reconcile, healing and growth happened.

I knew I was on my aha moment, when she said I won’t even get into what you did to me. Typically that would have sent me over the edge, if I hadn’t already went there. Because I instantly thought I did nothing. I didn’t choose my father. But I let her continue and we ended with her saying she enjoyed Christmas at my house and she wants to do it again. Me: Ok you’re welcomed anytime.

Somethings are better left unsaid. Opening that wound isn’t going to get it to heal. Reaggravating an injury prolongs healing and adds unwanted infections. Find peace within. Resolve your own emotions about a relationship, person, or situation. Enjoy your day!!!!
