Never Take Your Foot Off the Gas: Self-Care is a Lifestyle

When it comes to self-care, we often think of it as something we turn to during tough times. But the real secret is never taking your foot off the gas—even when life is going well. Self-care is more than an occasional activity; it’s a lifestyle and a way of being. It’s in the daily habits and practices that keep you grounded, balanced, and aligned with yourself.

We all have those moments when things seem to be running smoothly, and it’s easy to get relaxed, thinking we don’t need to focus on self-care as much. But that’s actually when you should ramp it up—not slow down. When life feels good, it’s the perfect time to express gratitude, give back, and prioritize your needs. That way, when life throws you a curveball, you’re already in alignment with yourself, and the challenges don’t knock you off course as easily.

Keep Your Self-Care Simple

Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. In fact, it works best when you keep it simple. During a recent conversation with my mom, we were talking about how we tend to care for ourselves when we’re sick. When you’re sick and go to the hospital, what do they do? They give you an IV for fluids, put you on a bland diet, and tell you to rest. Simple, right? So why wait for a health scare to take care of yourself?

Let’s think of daily self-care as the maintenance plan for your well-being. Drink your water. Get enough sleep. Log off when you need to. Listen to your body, nourish it with colorful foods, and laugh often. Take time for fresh air, read a good book, and do it all over again the next day.

Self-Care as a Way of Being

When self-care becomes a lifestyle, you’re not just responding to problems—you’re building confidence and courage . You’re investing in your emotional, mental, and physical health before you’re in a place of crisis. This is how you stay in alignment with who you are, even when life gets unpredictable.

The idea is to create small, consistent practices that become part of your everyday life. Whether things are going well or not, your foundation of self-care remains strong. You’ll be more equipped to handle stress, setbacks, and unexpected challenges with grace and calmness. SETBACKS, REJECTIONS, AND STUMBLING BLOCKS ARE NECESSARY FOR GROWTH

So, as you move through your week, don’t take your foot off the gas. Keep doing the little things that support your well-being. When you stay on track with your self-care, you’re better prepared for whatever comes your way.

Remember: Self-care is a lifestyle, not a luxury. Keep it simple, stay consistent, and prioritize yourself—because you’re worth it.

Celebrating International Self-Care Day: Simple Ways to Take Care of Yourself

July 24 is International Self-Care Day, a perfect reminder to prioritize your well-being and take care of yourself. Self-care doesn’t have to be elaborate or time-consuming; sometimes, the simplest acts can have the most profound impact. Here’s how I like to keep my self-care routine simple and effective, focusing on feeling good inside and out, making others feel good, and maintaining a welcoming home filled with good food and laughter.

Self-care is essential for maintaining physical, mental, and emotional health. It’s about taking the time to nurture yourself, reduce stress, and enhance your overall well-being. On International Self-Care Day, let’s take a moment to reflect on how we can incorporate simple self-care practices into our daily lives.

Simple Self-Care Practices for July 24

Here are some ways you can participate in self-care today:

**1. Feel Good Inside and Out

Start your day with activities that make you feel good both physically and mentally. This could be a morning stretch, a short workout, or simply spending a few moments in meditation. Nourish your body with a healthy breakfast and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Remember, self-care is about listening to your body and giving it what it needs to thrive.

**2. Make Others Feel Good

Self-care also involves spreading positivity to those around you. Compliment a friend, help a neighbor, or spend quality time with your family. Making others feel good can boost your own happiness and create a positive ripple effect in your community.

**3. Maintain a Clutter-Free, Inviting Home

A clutter-free, pleasant-smelling home can do wonders for your mental state. Take some time today to tidy up your space. Light a scented candle or use essential oils to create a calming atmosphere. A clean, organized home can be a sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation.

**4. Enjoy Good Food

Prepare a delicious meal for yourself and your loved ones. Cooking can be a therapeutic activity, and sharing a meal can strengthen bonds. Choose recipes that are both nutritious and enjoyable, and savor the experience of eating together.

**5. Embrace Laughter

Laughter is a powerful form of self-care. Watch a funny movie, share jokes with friends, or play a game that brings joy to your household. Laughter reduces stress, boosts your immune system, and can improve your mood instantly.

How I Celebrate Self-Care

On International Self-Care Day, I like to keep my routine simple yet fulfilling:

Morning Routine: I start my day with a skincare routine that makes me feel good. Taking my time going through my routine gives me the couple minutes of “me time” needed before giving myself to my family for the day. This sets a positive tone for the rest of the day.

Spreading Positivity: I make it a point to have a moment of silence to ensure I’m emotionally present. Spend time in prayer and meditation. Listening to my usual motivational videos during breakfast to provide some nuggets of inspiration throughout the day.

Home Atmosphere: I will spend my usual hour a day cleaning and doing laundry . Giving myself a time of an hour a day allows me to not get too deep into a project, maintain the daily clutter, and refresh the home to keep our safe space serene.

Healthy Meals: My daily plan will continue in eating as nutritious as possible. Ensuring I’m eating all the colors of the rainbow. Having a healthy protein and fiber intake. Not to mention keeping up with my daily water intake.

Evening Laughter: To end the day, get in some good laughter. Find something funny or interesting to keep you engaged and not take things too seriously.

International Self-Care Day is a wonderful opportunity to prioritize your well-being and incorporate simple, meaningful practices into your routine. By focusing on feeling good inside and out, making others feel good, maintaining a clutter-free home, enjoying good food, and embracing laughter, you can enhance your overall quality of life. Remember, self-care isn’t just for today—make it a regular part of your life and enjoy the lasting benefits.

How will you participate in self-care today? Happy International Self-Care Day!

Simple Self-Care Tips That Go a Long Way

In our busy lives, it’s easy to overlook self-care. However, taking simple steps to care for yourself can make a significant difference in your overall well-being. Here are some straightforward self-care tips that can help you lead a more balanced, fulfilling life. Remember, self-care isn’t about luxury or indulgence; it’s about taking actions that nurture your physical, emotional, and mental health.

1. Trust Your Instincts: If It Feels Wrong, Don’t Do It

Your instincts are a powerful tool. If something feels wrong, it probably is. Trusting your gut can prevent you from making decisions that might lead to stress or regret. Whether it’s in your personal life or at work, listening to your inner voice can guide you toward choices that align with your values and well-being. We often look back and say “I wish I would have know.” Or “I wish someone would have told me.” Well you did get a warning. Listen to your gut. 5 SELF CARE TIPS TO REFRESH AND RECHARGE

2. Communicate Clearly: Say Exactly What You Mean and Mean What You Say

Clear communication is essential for healthy relationships and personal integrity. Saying exactly what you mean leaves little room for misunderstandings or misinterpretations. It also ensures that your needs and boundaries are respected. Practicing clear and honest communication can lead to more genuine connections and fewer conflicts. Some of us are taught early on, to not ask or express your needs or concerns. Doing so in a respectful manner will help oneself, relationships, and others.

3. Stop the Negative Self-Talk

Negative self-talk can be incredibly damaging to your self-esteem and mental health. Challenge those negative thoughts by asking yourself if they are true or helpful. Replace them with positive affirmations and focus on your strengths and achievements. Over time, you’ll notice a significant improvement in your mood and self-confidence.

4. Don’t Be Afraid to Say No

Saying no can be difficult, especially if you’re a people-pleaser. However, it’s essential to recognize your limits and protect your time and energy. Saying no doesn’t make you selfish; it means you’re prioritizing your well-being. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. By setting boundaries, you ensure that you have the resources to take care of yourself and others effectively. My husband and I often laugh in our early days we would say yes, especially at work, because we knew how to do it, helped someone out, and allowed us to learn. All the while saying yes doesn’t get you a raise, picked to be on the team, get you an invite, or any other pat on the back.

5. Don’t Be Afraid to Say Yes

Conversely, don’t be afraid to say yes to opportunities that excite you or align with your goals. Taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to personal growth and new experiences. Whether it’s accepting a new job offer, joining a social event, or trying a new career hobby, saying yes can open doors to enriching experiences.

6. Be Honest About Your Feelings

Honesty about your feelings is crucial for your mental health and your relationships. Suppressing emotions can lead to stress, anxiety, and resentment. Whether you’re feeling happy, sad, angry, or anxious, acknowledge and express those feelings in a healthy way. Talking to a trusted friend, journaling, or seeking professional help can be beneficial. In turn, if your partner, spouse, coworker, family, or friend ask you how you feel, tell them.

Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. By trusting your instincts, communicating clearly, stopping negative self-talk, setting boundaries, embracing opportunities, and being honest about your feelings, you can significantly improve your well-being. These simple self-care tips can go a long way in helping you lead a more balanced and fulfilling life. Remember, taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. Make self-care a priority, and watch how it positively impacts every aspect of your life.

FINDING BALANCE IN LIFE: CAN YOU REALLY HAVE IT?

In our fast-paced digital and trendy world, the pursuit of balance in life seems like an elusive goal. Everywhere you turn the topic of finding balance in your life is upon you. But, can you truly ever have “balance?” We juggle careers, relationships, personal growth, health, and countless other responsibilities, often feeling like we’re on a tightrope, struggling to find stability. Or my favorite, we’re often that hamster on a wheel going no where fast. But amidst the chaos, is balance truly attainable? How do we determine if we can ever achieve it?

What is life balance? First, let’s get rid of this notion that we can have the “perfect” life balance. And once we find or get it, we’ll sustain it. Balance doesn’t mean allocating equal time and energy to every aspect of your life. Rather, it’s about prioritizing what matters most to you at any given moment and allocating resources accordingly. Life is a journey, and as we travel through our journey our priorities will shift and change. We’ll have peaks and valleys. There will be light and darkness. Embracing this road, the changes, and different seasons will determine how well we “balance”.

So where do we begin seeking this balance in life? To determine if balance is achievable for you, start by identifying your priorities. What brings you joy, fulfillment, and a sense of purpose? Is it your career, relationships, health, hobbies, or personal growth? Reflect on what truly matters to you, both in the short and long term. From there, be intentional on what you want to achieve. After that’s clear drive your focus. What we put our focus into will grow.

Once you’ve identified your priorities, assess how you’re currently allocating your time and energy. Are you spending the majority of your resources on activities that align with your priorities? Or are you caught up in tasks that drain you without contributing to your overall well-being? Be honest with yourself and consider where adjustments can be made. As of late I started meal prepping to ensure I not only had lunch the next day, but lunch for my specific eating goals. This also give me the ability to switch my workout time to get me to bed earlier. MENTAL HEALTH AND SELF CARE IS FREE

Perfection is boring!!!!! It’s essential to understand finding balance in life doesn’t mean you’re striving to be perfect. Life is messy, and there will inevitably be times when certain areas receive more attention than others. Sometimes life will take you down a road where the only win for you on a given day is waking up and brushing your teeth. Embrace imperfection and give yourself permission to prioritize self-care and flexibility. Remember, it’s okay to say no to commitments that don’t align with your priorities.

Check out some of my current favorite indulgences that keep me comfortable, happy, peaceful, and organized. Also helps me maintain my sense of “balance.”

Mindfulness and living intentionally is important while trying to pursue balance. By staying present and synced to your thoughts, feelings, and actions, you can make conscious choices that support your well-being. Incorporate mindfulness practices such as meditation, deep breathing, or journaling into your daily routine to cultivate inner peace and clarity. If that’s not your thing, give yourself 5 minutes of silence to connect to you. Feel you. Hear you. What do you need? Check in with your plate that day. What have you eaten? What does your body need? Have you moved enough?

While you’re finding balance, ask for help. Achieving balance doesn’t have to be a solo journey. Reach out to friends, family, or a professional coach for support and guidance. Surround yourself with people who uplift and encourage you to prioritize your well-being. Building yourself a foundational system that you can rely for honesty, encouragement, peace, comfort, joy, and direction . Also be mindful of the content you consume, how much, and the purpose behind the content.

Finally, be realistic about what balance means for you. Everyone “balance” in life looks different. Not everyone is seeking balance. Do what makes you feel good and able to navigate your day peacefully. It’s essential to adjust your expectations based on your journey. Your road may have more turns and hills. While others may be a little more flat. Understand that balance is a never ending journey that requires ongoing effort and adaptation. Celebrate small victories along the way and be compassionate with yourself during times of imbalance.

On a final note, while achieving perfect balance may be an unattainable ideal, finding harmony in life is within reach. By identifying your priorities, assessing your time and energy allocation, embracing imperfection, cultivating mindfulness, seeking support, and adjusting your expectations, you can navigate the complexities of life with greater ease and fulfillment. Remember, balance is not a destination but a journey—an ongoing pursuit fueled by self-awareness, intentionality, and compassion. #Bewell
