Simple Saturday Self-Care: Recharging After a Long Week

After a hectic week—especially one where my schedule’s been off due to my mom’s surgery—there’s nothing I look forward to more than a Simple Saturday Self-Care routine. It’s my chance to reset, recharge, and focus on the small things that make me feel refreshed. Self-care doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated; in fact, the best kind is often free and easy, giving you the space to breathe without adding more to your to-do list.

Here’s a glimpse into my Simple Saturday and why I think it’s so important to keep self-care low-key and effective.

1. Wake Up Naturally

Instead of setting an alarm, I let my body wake up naturally. After a long week, nothing feels better than a few extra minutes (or an hour!) of sleep. It sets a relaxed tone for the day, and I’m more energized without the sound of a loud alarm jarring me out of bed.

2. One-Hour Of Cleaning (And That’s It!)

I set a timer for one hour, and that’s all I dedicate to cleaning. Gone are the days where I spend my entire Saturday scrubbing and organizing, only to feel exhausted and like I’ve lost my day. Now, I tackle whatever needs to get done in that hour—whether it’s tidying up the kitchen, dusting, or putting away laundry—and once the timer’s up, that’s it! It’s so freeing to set limits on household chores and actually enjoy the day instead of getting stuck in a cleaning marathon.

3. Football and Breakfast with My Husband

After my hour of cleaning, it’s time to enjoy the best part of the day—breakfast and coffee with my husband while we watch college football. 🏈☕ There’s something about those quiet, shared moments that feels like the ultimate self-care. It’s relaxing, laid-back, and it gives us a chance to reconnect after a busy week.

4. Reading and a Little Beauty Care

Next, I carve out time for reading—a favorite book or catching up on some articles I’ve saved throughout the week. It’s my way of slowing down and letting my mind unwind. I will also take a few minutes to wash my makeup brushes. It’s a small but satisfying task that’s part of my self-care routine, ensuring my skin stays healthy and giving me a sense of accomplishment (plus, clean brushes just feel good!).

5. Relax, Recharge, Rejuvenate

The rest of the day is all about relaxing, recharging, and rejuvenating. Whether I’m lounging on the couch, taking a quick nap, or spend some time outside walking, the goal is to let my mind and body truly unwind. I’ve learned that self-care isn’t about ticking off a long list of activities—it’s about slowing down, keeping it simple, and doing things that nourish your mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

Keep It Simple, Keep It Free

The beauty of self-care is that it doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. Often, the simplest routines are the ones that give you the most peace. Waking up naturally, setting limits on chores, spending time with loved ones, and taking moments to rest and recharge are all things we can do at no cost. Self-care is about making time for yourself, listening to what your mind and body need, and enjoying those small moments that bring joy and calm.

So, if you’re feeling drained or overwhelmed, remember: self-care can be as easy as slowing down and enjoying your day. Keep it simple and let it refresh, recharge, and rejuvenate you from the inside out.

EMBRACING THE JOYS OF FREE WEEKENDS

I’ve always found the question “What are you doing this weekend?” a bit burdensome. It seems to carry with it an expectation of grand plans or exciting adventures, when sometimes all I crave is quiet solitude or a chance to unwind without a set agenda. It can sometimes feel like a reminder of societal pressures to constantly fill our days with activities. So instead of dreading the question, I’ve learned to simply answer pleasantly, “absolutely nothing.” I’m not ashamed to say nothing, feel like I’m missing out, or not living.

Let’s talk about the sheer joy of having weekends void of duties and itineraries! Ah, the feeling of waking up on a Saturday morning with absolutely nothing on your agenda except for indulging in whatever your heart desires. It’s a luxury we often overlook in our fast-paced lives, but oh, how rejuvenating it can be!

Imagine no alarms interrupting your precious sleep. No deadlines looming over your head, and no obligations pulling you in different directions. Instead, picture yourself leisurely sipping your favorite brew, whether it’s a steaming cup of coffee or a refreshing herbal tea, as you soak in the tranquility of the morning. I love waking up slowly, taking my time choosing which comfy outfit it will be for the day, and sipping my new favorite tea ginger and honey. 3 SELF CARE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEKEND

With your weekends free, you have the freedom to explore your passions and hobbies without any time constraints. Whether it’s immersing yourself in a captivating book, unleashing your creativity through art or music, or simply spending quality time with loved ones, the possibilities are endless. Or binging on that one show you’ve been recording.

And let’s not forget the joy of spontaneity! When you have no fixed plans, every moment becomes an opportunity for adventure. Maybe you’ll decide to try a new restaurant. After lounging for sometime, maybe you’ll decide to go visit someone, stop for ice cream, or take a walk in nature. The opportunities are endless.

But most importantly, having weekends free of duties and itineraries allows you to recharge and nourish your soul. In a world where busyness is often glorified, taking time to rest and rejuvenate is essential for your well-being. An unpopular opinion is that one of the best luxuries in life is to be able to relax not just body but mind as well. So, embrace the joy of free weekends, my friends, and let yourself relish in the simple joys of life. After all, sometimes the most fulfilling moments are found in the spaces between plans. 🌼✨

AFFORDABLE SELF CARE ON A BUDGET

My self care is a non negotiable. I have mastered taking time for myself without feeling guilty. Taking care of your mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing requires intentional effort. However, I quickly had to learn how to get creative and resourceful to indulge in self care without breaking the bank. Let’s explore some of my affordable self care practices.

Free Therapists On Rotation
Let’s be honest, therapy cost. If you have insurance then you probably can get to a therapist. But I found following therapist on social media has been the most helpful. I can get useful advice, information, understanding, tools, and clarity at my fingertips. Current fave is Dr. Shante Holley, Certified Life Coach, Podcaster, and Trauma Informed Ambassador. Follow her @drshantesays.

Sheet Masks
Skin care is my jam. Treat yourself to an at home pampering session with my favorite By Nature Vitamin C & Collagen Sheet mask. https://amzn.to/3RYmGSy Moisture, dewy, and plump skin is what you get. I do my normal double cleanse and then put this on while soaking in my hot lavender oil infused bath. Less than $3 for one is a great way to rejuvenate yourself.

Clean, Fresh Sheets
After a long day, climbing in bed to clean fresh sheets is an exhale moment. Part of my Sunday Reset routine is changing linen. It’s a recharge that helps you unwind and have a good night sleep. Comfort and relaxation is a part of your self care. SELF CARE IS A LIFESTYLE

New Water Bottle
I found the cutest water bottle on clearance for $4.99. https://amzn.to/3S1jIww This is my new toy to keep me motivated and on track for my water intake. Drinking sufficient amount of water daily can help eliminate mental and emotional distress. Yes it keeps me motivated, but I have another cute accessory.

Perfume Samples
One of my favorite ways to boost my mood is perfume. Purchasing testers and samplers has given me the opportunity to diversify my collection for different purposes. I save money, smell good, and enhance my knowledge in learning how to compliment different notes and layer. A bonus is you can travel or put it in your purse on the go if needed to.

Bar Soap
As a family of five, we go through a ton of body wash. But I started purchasing bar soap to give me a variety of scents, different formulation options, and suits my sensitive skin. https://amzn.to/4aBnyDZ Also the bar soap allows me to keep something for myself. And it lasts longer than body wash.

Press On Nails
My daughter and I have been loving our press on nails these last couple months. We definitely get a return on our investment and we receive many compliments on them. I get such a rush at finding out how to do my own beauty treatments. So far my favorites are https://amzn.to/3S0F1yp KISS press on nails and Glamnetic. https://amzn.to/3GZkRP5 I have endless opportunities to explore my personality.

Self care doesn’t have to be expensive or reserved for those with deep pockets. In fact, free or inexpensive self care practices are more enjoyable and effective. Prioritizing your routine without straining your budget is a win win. Self care is essential and it’s all about the little things that makes a good bit of difference.

3 SELF CARE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEKEND

Most of us use the weekend for relaxation, reset, and rest. Throughout the week I had some light bulb moments, great conversations, and read some really great passages that I’d like to pass on. As you prepare for your weekend here are some self care reminders to get you jump started.

”Sleeping in on a Saturday always feels like a little bit of heaven. “-Carla Kringer

  1. It’s ok to have nothing to say. If you’re in a group or having a conversation, it’s ok to listen and not have a response to everything that is said. One piece of advice I received long ago, was to only answer the question that is asked. How many times do we answer and then give some extra sauce. Another thing I noticed is when it’s a silent moment or dead air, someone will say something to fill that silence. No need for that. Enjoy the mood and company. The conversation will naturally flow.
  2. Live in the now. Stop postponing your happiness. No I’m not talking about starting your business or moving. But how often have you or someone you know postpone everyday life things. When I get the money, then I’ll go to the doctor. I can’t do this until I finish this. When I finally get over this hump then I’ll be able to. Make your appointments. Do what you need to do. Once you get over one hump the next is waiting. My husband and I joke all the time about when we were little how often our parents must have said, “wait until next time.” Chile that next time never came. What are you actually waiting for? WEEKEND SELF CARE TO DO LIST
  3. Ask for what you need or want. This year for my birthday when my husband asked me what I wanted I gave him a list. Usually I’ll say it doesn’t matter, whatever you feel in your heart, or I’ll say nothing. Well, when my birthday arrived, I received what was on my list. In turn I was very happy and grateful. Which sparked another light bulb reminder. Don’t ever feel guilty for what you want. It’s perfectly ok to want things or to go somewhere. Especially when someone asks, tell them.

Those are my 3 self care reminders for the weekend. As you enjoy your time off remember to enjoy being in the moment, make sure what you say is meaningful and has a perspective, live for the now. You don’t have to wait for anything to be happy. Choose happiness now. Lastly, be clear on what you want, who you want, and what you need. Have a great weekend!!!!!
