I wrote this post a while back and never hit publish. Reading it again reminded me why I started writing about self-care in the first place — so here it is, finally seeing the light of day.
Life has a way of making us feel like we should be further along than we are. Whether you’re in high school, college, or even navigating adulthood, it’s easy to fall into the trap of comparison. Recently, this became so clear to me while helping my two nieces and my kids. One niece is in nursing school, balancing long study hours with self-doubt. My other niece is in her third year of college, navigating independence, career choices, while questioning her path, and of course her boyfriend . My daughter is in high school, trying to figure out her direction as a young artist while managing being a teenager. And then there’s my son, who I was helping move around campus—where I noticed so many students needing mental and emotional support, encouragement, and guidance. There’s this sentiment floating around that they should already “be someone,” already know what they want, already have achieved something big. But I keep telling them what I’ll also tell you: growth doesn’t happen all at once—it happens little by little, and you are not behind.
That’s where this 30-day writing challenge comes in. Writing is one of the best tools for reflection, clarity, and self-discovery.
